Big Events Breakdown: Week 3
Another week of million dollar qualifiers is in the books and, as usual, there were several RotoGrinders members who showed up at the top of leaderboards across the industry. For those of you who might not be aware, both Fanduel and Draftstreet are giving away $1,000,000 to the winner’s of their respective football championships, and another round of qualifiers kick off this Sunday. StarStreet is also providing their users with quite a treat, sending their finalists to the Playboy Mansion to compete for $250,000. Big prizes will continue to be up for grabs for weeks to come, but let’s take a look in the rearview mirror and review the big Week 3 winners… All RotoGrinders members will have their names bolded.

A very respectable #8 finish for our good friend Al Smizzle. Al is a co-host of the very entertaining Grinders Live, in addition to being a 2013 DFBC + DSBC finalist. Smizzle has also taken down the 2013 DSBBC, the 2013 DK Walk Off, and was a DSFC finalist in 2012. Pretty impressive resume and I think it’s safe to say we will be seeing him near the top of leaderboards all year long, regardless of the sport.

Half of the top ten finishers were RotoGrinders members, so that’s quite a performance for the community. Most of the credit in this regard should be awarded to McJester, who not only took down the Finals seat but also managed to pick up 4th and 5th place finishes as well. McJester is currently holding down the #6 spot in our Tournament Player of the Year rankings, and has an overall ranking of 29th. I listened to an interview with McJester on DB’s Thursday podcast, and he is really a guy you want to root for. He started his DFS career by borrowing $70, and has now pretty much turned his fantasy sports knowledge into a real source of income. It goes to show that no matter where you start, you can find success in this industry. Kingspoint11 finished 6th, and is currently 44th on the NFL Grinder Leaderboard in addition to being #66 in our TPOY rankings. Proehl, who is relatively new to the grinder community, took home 9th place.

Proehl was the only RG member to take home a top-10 finish, coming in at #5. He has been pretty active in NFL so far at both Fanduel and FanThrowDown. Proehl is currently #441 in our NFL Grinder rankings, but with these finishes I expect to see that ranking continue to rise as the season wears on.

A big shout out to MrTuttle05 for his second place finish, great showing for a guy who consistently dominates the industry. Tuttle is currently 7th on our TPOY rankings, 3rd on the MLB Grinder Leaderboard, 9th on the NFL Grinder Leaderboard, and is the No. 12 overall grinder. I could list even more, but just know that if you see this guy in one of your contests, he is probably going to beat you. 4th place finisher Condia also boasts an impressive stat line, as he is currently the top ranked grinder overall in addition to taking top honors in the NFL Grinder Leaderboard. Killab2482 took down 9th place and is currently 2nd on the NFL Grinder Leaderboard.

Quite a few RG members placed in the $55 Q, with Pcfriarsfan finishing second, bigblue11891 finishing third, Kaetorade coming in fourth, dwick299 placing sixth, jae686 finishing seventh, Golf Coach coming in at eighth, and last but not least, MrTuttle05 taking ninth. A very nice showing from the community as many of the big names backed up their resumes with impressive finishes.

Bigblue11891 and Kaetorade again find themselves in the Top ten, with AP4Pres also coming in at 10th in this one. AP4Pres is currently ranked #255 in the overall grinder ranks, while Kaetorade comes in at 11th. Bigblue is still working his way up the rankings and with top 10 finishes in two of the three DFFC qualifiers, I expect that to happen rather quickly.

Mirage88 will be heading to the Playboy Mansion for his piece of the $250,000 prize pool, and I don’t think there is a better venue for a championship like this. A Sunday party at the mansion while you’re casually competing for huge sums of money? Sounds like a great time. Hats off to Mirage88 and we wish you the best of luck. Westy finished with a very respectable bronze medal, and currently sits at #81 in the overall rankings. Draftcheat took down 4th place (ranked 45th in the overall rankings), followed by RotoGrinders own Cal in 5th, kingspoint11 in 6th, Hatorade in 7th, McJester in 9th and our very own Notorious rounds out the top ten. The guys giving advice on this site must be on to something, as all but two of the top ten entries are RotoGrinders members. Well done gentlemen.

Again, many RotoGrinders members at the top of the leaderboard. MrTuttle05 takes the well-deserved PFFC seat and trip to the Mansion, while BirdWIngs was right on his tail and takes home $3,500. McJester comes in with another nice showing, taking home $1,500…must have been a nice weekend to be him and Tuttle. Makisupa finished 5th, just outside of the money, followed by TheTakeOVER in 6th, Michael-Leone (aka leonem) in 8th, shanksalot in 9th, and our very own co-host of GrindersLive tommyg1979 rounds out the top 10.

Half of the top 10 consisted of RG members… Nro (aka Katorade) took down second, while ERIII (#60 in the overall rankings) took sixth, TwoGun (#37 in the TPOY rankings) finished seventh, JimL04 (#279 in overall rankings) placed ninth, and Condia (#1 in overall rankings) rounds out the top ten. It’s ashame that even with a top 10 finish in a tournament like this, you can still finish outside of the money. I guess it’s all about those main event seats though!

Three of our own took home top ten finishes, with Nro (aka Katorade ) taking down fourth place, bpoe13 finishing sixth, and ERIII making another top ten apperance with a #9 finish. ERIII is currently ranked 26th in the monthly grinder leaderboard and is 56th in the NFL grinder rankings.

McJester just had one of those weekends where everyone he played seemed to go off. He took down a combined $5,800 in this tournament thanks to his third and ninth place finishes. Jwalker431 (aka thegeneral42 on RotoGrinders) took down 6th place and $1,200. I heard McJester talking about how Jake Locker was one of the key players in his success this week, and sometimes you need that off-the-wall play in your lineup to have a shot at taking down any of these big tournaments. Success is usually not found in the masses.

A big shout out to Fishhooks for taking down 1st place, which was good for 25 G’s and a seat to the Fantasy Millionaire Grand Final (FMGF). Fishhooks is currently ranked 33rd in our TPOY rankings and is the #63 overall grinder for the month of September. Rikkidee finished fourth while PCfriarsfan came in one spot later at fifth.
It was quite a weekend for the grinder community and I’m sure many of you (like myself) were sweating out almost every last second of that Monday Night game… can someone explain to me why Peyton Manning was still throwing the ball to his starting WR’s late in the fourth quarter with the game already wrapped up? Nonetheless, it is pretty impressive that any time you look at a DFS scoreboard, you will always find RotoGrinders members somewhere near the top. There was not one big tournament/qualifier this weekend that did not see multiple RG members finish in the top ten, and I bet there aren’t many other websites/communities that can claim the same thing. Our mission with this article is to salute our members on their recent achievements in the DFS community, so a big congratulations to anyone who took down qualifiers/cashed in big GPP’s this weekend. Not everyone has the bankroll to throw multiple entries into tournaments like these, so I’ll extend another congratulations to anyone who made money this weekend, period. It is not always easy to do in this industry, so keep on churning out lineups and I wish you all the best of luck in Week 4.
