Big Events: Wild Card Weekend & CFB Finals

rg homepage bigevents breakdown medium

This is the first week that college football will be included in our breakdown, and how could we not get into the action after a great finish to the season on Monday night. Our very own GrindersCam, a co-founder of RotoGrinders, took down the DraftKings 50K Cash Bowl, which many of our members made top-ten appearances in. FanDuel ran it’s 100K King of the Campus, one of the biggest CFB tournaments of the year which saw the winner take home $20,000. Both FanDuel and DraftKings ran their major weekly NFL GPP’s (the Bomb and the $150K), so while it doesn’t quite compare to the regular season, the postseason is offering up some legitimate action across the major sites.

For the Divisional Round, DraftKings is offering up a $400,000 GPP ($200 direct buy-in) where first place will take home $100,000. It will mark the biggest tournament of the NFL postseason and will be the last chance to win some serious cash until the beginning of the 2014 season. FanDuel is once again running the $300K Saturday Bomb ($25 buy-in) and the $80K Luxury Box ($535 buy-in), so there will be no shortage of action for an exciting weekend of the NFL playoffs. As always, all RotoGrinders members with top-ten finishes will have their names bolded.

10 bbowman17 $1,000

This tournament turned out much differently then the Bomb, with Grinders all over the top-ten in this one. Congratulations to hpharri1994 on taking this one down, who came from behind with Tre Mason (36.2 points) and Rashad Greene (19.2 points) leading him to victory on Monday night. His Tajh Boyd to Sammy Watkins combination paid huge dividends, as did South Carolina’s Bruce Ellington. Mdube16 (aka esmmark) finished just over two points behind in second, and he looked like the potential winner for a good chunk of Monday night. He’s 92nd on our overall leaderboard. Fearmyturtle (216th on the overall leaderboard) finished fourth, and he also rolled out Boyd, Watkins and Ellington. Andresbakozalath (aka steveokaps) placed fifth with a big game from LSU running back Jeremy Hill, followed by miggytoddbest (91st in the overall rankings) who connected nicely on Henry Josey, who rushed for 3 TD’s against Oklahoma State. Socrdave finished seventh, and he currently sits at #18 in our overall rankings as well as 9th on the NBA Grinder leaderboard. Headchopper (23rd in the overall rankings) followed behind in eighth, while maxdalury (11th in the overall rankings) rounds out the RG members in ninth place.

6 markgenorex $3,500
7 tspiedo $3,000
8 Williamsj18 $3,000
9 Laiyang2 $2,500
10 Mandeer $2,500

A big shout out to millhouse83 for being the only member of the $150K to cross the 200-point mark this weekend, leading to a first place finish and a cool ten grand. He paired up Andrew Luck and TY Hilton (the top QB/WR duo of the Wild Card round), and also hit on Dwayne Bowe (32 points, just 5.0% owned). Millhouse83 is 80th on the monthly leaderboard. SyracuseSlappers (514th in the overall rankings) finished second, and he did it with big games from Michael Crabtree and Marvin Jones in addition to the Luck/Hilton combo. Markness also had the the big trio from the KC/IND game (Luck, Hilton, Bowe) and got 16 points out of his kicker (Succop), good enough for a fifth place finish.

The RG community completeley dominated this tournament (as well as FanDuel’s CFB event), and it probably has something to do with the high quality of CFB content we have on the site. Guys like Chop, stlcardinals84 and DB put up some great stuff week in and week out this season, and they give people (like myself) who know nothing about college football the opportunity to win money every week. Our very own GrindersCam, one of the site’s co-founders, took down the $50K Cash Bowl even as he prepares for a wedding, the guy is just a machine. He got over 100 points out of his two QB’s (Tajh Boyd and Bryce Petty), and also hit big on Storm Johnson, Jordan Matthews and Sammy Watkins. Cam’s entire roster was productive outside of Nick O’Leary, but since almost three quarters of the tournament had him rostered, it didn’t hurt much. CSURAM88 came close to taking down the tournament himself, but he’ll have to settle for second and third place finishes (not a bad consolation prize). CSU is 9th in our overall rankings and is one of my favorite hosts to tune into on GrindersLive for both NFL and NBA advice. If you’re not watching the 5:30 and/or the 6:30 show before NBA roster-lock, you’re really missing out. Stlcardinals84 (another one of the solid GrindersLive hosts, 7th in the overall rankings) also had two top-ten finishes in this one, taking down both fourth and ninth place. STL also had the Bryce Petty/Tajh Boyd QB duo along with Watkins, Storm Johnson and Jahwan Edwards. Headchopper finished 6th and did so with some solid against-the-grain plays in Clint Chelf (2.1% owned) and HEnry Josey (7.5% owned). Rashad Greene was also a pretty nice find, who was owned by 18.2% of the field. The realmccoy2984 (aka mt15scu) followed in 8th place, who rolled out Carlos Hyde who totaled over 150 yards and 2 TD’s. Ewjohnson_tha_first (300th in the overall rankings) rounds out the top-ten.
