Card Stock Concepts - Ronald Acuna Edition
Ronald Acuna has taken the league by storm! Not only is he talking the talk, but he is walking the walk. He’s playing at an elite level and still has plenty of upside on a young team that is continuing to put together winning seasons. Along with winning seasons, if you picked up some of his cards early on, you should be winning in the profitability department. Even still, I think Acuna is a great investment at this stage. Let’s take a look at some of his cards and where we may be able to get in at under the radar price points.

There Is Still Upside for Acuna
One of the biggest things for me in baseball is making sure to invest in licensed products. Don’t get me wrong, I think some of the unlicensed products are beautiful and I will absolutely pick up some tiger stripes and zebra stripes for the personal collection, but Topps and Bowman are king and we will focus on these brands for Acuna. One of the things that stands out to me currently in all of his iconic rookie cards is that they are currently trending down. At the writing of this article his 2018 Topps Chrome PSA 10 is down 31%, the 2018 Topps Chrome Update PSA 10 is down 21%, and the 2018 Bowman Chrome is down 36%. In terms of real dollars Acuna was as high as $381.42 in the Topps Chrome, $231.06 in the Topps Chrome Update, and $325.00 in the Bowman Chrome. The current corresponding prices are $193 for the Topps Chrome, $117 for the Topps Chrome Update, and $113 for the Bowman Chrome. There is huge profit potential here if you are looking to make money versus hold for the long term on Acuna. I think he has a lot working in his favor as the face of the franchise, and it doesn’t hurt that Atlanta seems to be in a position to compete and make the playoffs every year in the foreseeable future. All of these ingredients combined show me that although Acuna is trending downward, a reverse back to season highs could be right around the corner. The other advantage to a player like Acuna is the liquidity factor. You will be able to get in and out of his cards pretty easily due to his popularity overall. This bodes well for all investors and makes me extremely comfortable on the recommendation front. Yes, he does play for my favorite team, but I still think now is the time to pounce at these prices.
