On Wednesday, the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Philadelphia 76ers will meet at the Wells Fargo Center. Entering play, Cleveland (38-22) trails Philadelphia (37-19) by one game for the third seed in the Eastern Conference standings. Ahead of tip-off, oddsmakers are expecting a tightly-contested affair, pricing the 76ers as 1-point home favorites on the spread.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland competing on the road
Though the Cavaliers are only 13-16 on the road this season, it seems as though they have started to figure out their road struggles, winning each of their last three games away from home. Following road victories against the Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, and New Orleans Pelicans, Cleveland owns the second-best Net Rating of any team in the league outside of their home gym. In 29 road games, the Cavaliers have outscored their opponents by 2.7 points per 100 possessions.
Advantage on the glass
Entering play this evening, Cleveland ranks ninth in rebound percentage as a team, compared to Philadelphia, which ranks 25th. In the first meeting between these two teams this season, the Cavaliers muscled their way to a 113-85 victory, in large part due to a 40-30 rebounding advantage. If the Cavaliers can control the boards again tonight, they have a legitimate opportunity to come away with a win.

Philadelphia 76ers
Sustained success
Since December 9, the 76ers are 25-7 overall and have outscored their opponents by 5.7 points per 100 possessions. In that span, only the Denver Nuggets own a better Net Rating. Their success during that time period has been driven largely by Joel Embiid, who is averaging 33.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game on 55.3% shooting from the floor. Philadelphia will need a better performance from Embiid in their rematch against Cleveland, after he posted only 19 points and six rebounds in the first meeting between these two clubs.
Dominant at home
Across the last two months, Philadelphia is 15-3 at home. On January 6, the 76ers lost to the Chicago Bulls with Embiid out of the lineup, meaning that only two of those losses have come at full strength. Playing on their home floor, this group has excelled primarily as a result of their elite offensive attack, which is averaging 119.3 points per 100 possessions in that stretch. Defensively, the 76ers remain vulnerable on the perimeter, and have continued to struggle to keep their opponents off of the free throw line. Both of those deficiencies are a concern ahead of this evening’s action.
Cavaliers vs. 76ers – Picks & Predictions
Though Cleveland has been playing better of late on the road, their wins have come against teams with far less talent than the 76ers. Philadelphia has been nearly unbeatable at the Wells Fargo Center in recent months, and there is little reason to expect otherwise on Wednesday with the team at full health. Assuming that Joel Embiid is in the lineup, bettors have a rare opportunity to take advantage of getting the 76ers at a playable moneyline price.
