CBB Daily Plays: Sunday, February 15th

Hello again! If you are reading this for the second day in a row, hopefully you liked the article from Saturday. The night slate was relatively uninspiring, and yesterday’s picks were somewhat hit-and-miss. I grabbed the right situations but oftentimes chose the wrong player. For example, Turner massively outplayed Ridley for Texas in the absence of Holmes and Carter outplayed Hill for Florida in the absence of Frazier. Those are the breaks, though, as college basketball daily fantasy is often a fickle animal. These guys are young, and performances sometimes tend to vary more widely than they do in the NBA. It’s simply the nature of the beast.

Let’s try to get back on the winning track with some plays for Sunday on FanDuel.

GUARDS

Delon Wright ($8,700) – He’s my favorite player to pay up for in this slate. The high-priced forwards all seem a tad bit overpriced, while the expensive guards are a bit more affordable. Wright is a do-it-all guy for Utah, and he hasn’t posted less than 23 fantasy points in any of the last ten games, though he hasn’t shown his 40-45 fantasy point potential much over that span either. He should play well in this home game against a Cal team that is playing well right now but still sometimes struggles defensively on the road.

T.J. McConnell ($7,500) – McConnell is emerging as a true do-it-all threat for this Arizona team. I have to admit that I do not love this price tag, but Washington State doesn’t really believe in defense. In addition, McConnell has a great ability to produce in all categories. He gets a boost on FanDuel with steals being counted. He has hit at least 34 fantasy points in each of Arizona’s last three games, and there’s no reason to believe that won’t continue against a very fast-paced team.

Andrew Andrews ($6,600) – With Upshaw no longer on the team and Jarreau still a couple games away from a return, Washington will continue to count on Andrews to play major minutes and be a top-tier scoring option. He has been held under 27 fantasy points just once over Washington’s eight games since Upshaw was suspended and Jarreau got injured. That type of consistency is hard to find, and the mid-range price tag just makes Andrews all the more attractive here in a decent matchup.

Gerry Blakes ($5,300) and/or Tra Holder ($5,100) – Bo Barnes injured his ankle on Friday and appears questionable at best for this game, while Kodi Justice has already been lost for the season for Arizona State. These losses severely hamper their depth at the guard spots, and it will be up to Blakes and Holder to grab as many minutes as they can handle. Holder is underpriced given his recent production and is the safer bet of the two as a do-it-all point guard. Blakes is a higher risk/higher reward option and was great in the last game after Barnes went down.

FORWARDS

Stanley Johnson ($7,900) – I don’t mind paying up for a guy like Kaminsky today, but there just isn’t enough reliable value to fit him in comfortably. In my opinion, the prudent way to go is to avoid the super expensive studs and go with more of a balanced approach. For a full $2,100 less than Kaminsky, you can get Stanley Johnson. The price doesn’t break the bank, the matchup is solid, and Johnson has continued to improve as the season goes along. He is coming off a rock-solid 20/8/2 line on Friday with a pair of blocks to boot, and he should continue to roll here.

Josh Scott ($7,700) – Colorado is slowly starting to integrate Scott back into his role as the primary weapon on the team, but his back injury is going to be a worry moving forward. The 29 minutes he played on Friday were encouraging, as that was a nice bump from the 22 he played in his first game back. If he’s allowed to go around 30 minutes in this one, he should be a fine option against Stanford. The price is too good to completely ignore him, but there is a bit of risk here. Lock in Scott as a solid GPP pick this afternoon.

Savon Goodman ($5,600) – Washington’s defense against opposing big men has been nothing short of atrocious since Upshaw was dismissed from the team. Savon Goodman is also picking up his game at the right time, and he loaded up with a solid 8 point, 14 rebound game against Washington State on Friday. Washington has nobody to match his size and physicality, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he tops his last game here, provided that he stays out of foul trouble. At a modest $5,600 price point, give Goodman a long look in this tasty matchup.

Michael Humphrey ($4,600) – If you want the speculative total punt play of the day, here you go. Stanford lacks depth up front with rising Rosco Allen now out indefinitely, and their only true big is Stefan Nastic. The problem with Nastic is that he often gets in foul trouble. Enter Michael Humphrey. He’s now starting in Allen’s absence, and he put up a solid 18 fantasy points in his first start. The kicker is that he only played 19 minutes himself…because he got in foul trouble. There’s foul risk everywhere with Stanford. If he can stay on the court and out of foul trouble, Humphrey should be a solid cap-saving option in this spot.
