CBB Grind Down: Fri, Nov 21st
Glean insight from one of the game’s best, Varncass, as he lists picks he’ll actually be targeting in his tournament games below, along with detailed analysis and reasoning.
Three games on FanDuel today, and I really like how they waited to put up the slate and included the Texas and California game. This makes me hopeful that for the upcoming tournaments that they might extend the slate for some of the bigger championship games unlike last year. The big story tonight is we have two blowout games and one game with Isaiah Taylor not playing due to injury. Let’s get right to it.

Texas
Prime Plays
Javan Felix – I was tempted to go with Kendal Yancey here who is 4,600 and definitely not a terrible play, but Barnes will go with Felix who has spent time at the point when Taylor was not a part of the team. Felix is a trigger-happy somewhat reckless guard, but is too cheap to pass up at the starting PG spot, even against Cal tonight.
Jonathan Holmes – Holmes’ price went up, but just a little and that still makes him a great play. We saw what he could do yesterday when he scored 11 points in a couple of minutes immediately in the second half to put Texas up. With Holmes playing the 3 and with Cal’s 3 guard lineup, he will find some mismatches in this one and should be asked to score a bit more with Taylor out.

Cal
Prime Plays
Jordan Mathews – If Cal is going to score tonight, just like last night, they are going to have to do it from outside. Both Bird and Mathews could be in play here, but I will pick Mathews as he has not gone under 20 points yet this season. Either one is solid as I expect a lot of shots taken between the two.
Secondary Plays
Tyrone Wallace – Wallace was extremely disappointing last night, but still managed to put up 24 FanDuel points with a late surge. He should do better in this game, especially with no one to guard him on the perimeter. He appeared to struggle at times with the Syracuse zone and deferred shots to Bird and Mathews but with Texas going man-to-man, look for him to beat his man off the dribble and attack the rim or kick for a three a lot more than passing around the perimeter.
