Friday, January 2nd

It is time to keep those resolutions to make money at DFS going, and the College Basketball slate keeps on giving with a nice Pac-12 opening slate and some great games tomorrow. Right now we will focus on winning the games tonight but I will have the early game breakdown posted tonight at some point.

Florida State

Primary Plays

Xavier Rathan-Mayes – Still underpriced, Rathan-Mayes should have another solid game here against a bad Mississippi State team who just dropped one to McNeese. I am not really buying that FSU is only one point favorites and I think they win this by at least 10. XRM, along with the other FSU guards continues to be underpriced and at 6,000 he is essentially a lock for 25 fantasy points.

Montay Brandon – Brandon scores about 17 points every game, grabs 5 rebounds and ends up with 26 fantasy points like clockwork. I wish he was entered as a forward here, as there are limited guard spots which takes his value down on a slate with a bunch of guard value. He is still a solid play, but at 6,500 is a rung below Rathan-Mayes.

Devon Bookert – Bookert is the final of the three FSU guards who continues to be a bit underpriced. Bookert plays almost the entire game for 5,200, and although he has not had good games in the last two, he is in a decent position today against a Mississippi State team who, despite a solid defense and low tempo, allows teams to score.

Secondary Plays

None – While I do not love the matchup against a slow Bulldogs team, the three eligible guards from FSU all make solid plays due to the amount of minutes they play and also their cheap prices which have not risen. With the other value at guard however it is going to be hard to justify using more than one, so pick your poison.

Mississippi State

Primary Plays

Craig Sword – Sword at $4,900 is simply a steal here tonight. He is just returning from injury and may draw his first start since returning to the lineup. I am going to venture that he plays 30 minutes today, and being the most talented offensive player on the team, he has very nice upside against an extremely fast paced Florida State team. He gets even better if Ware is ruled out again.

Secondary Plays

Fallou Ndoye – Ndoye will garner another 30 minutes of run if Ware is not going to play in this game, and will get minutes even if Ware does play. Ndoye is not very good, but he is big and takes up space, and his rebounding numbers this year are sure to increase as I cannot see a 6-11 guy having under a 10% rebound rate for the year. He is min-salary, but risky as he has flashed zero upside this year.

I.J. Ready – Ready has been starting at PG while the Bulldogs wait to get healthy, and has been doing OK. He is min salary tonight, and despite the Mississippi State offense being a complete dumpster fire, he brings a little bit of value as Florida State has one of the highest tempo’s in the league. Just like with FSU, I can really only see using one of these guys here, as stacking Mississippi State has never really been a way to succeed in fantasy the last 3 years.
