CBB Grind Down: Monday, December 22nd
Glean insight from one of the game’s best, Varncass, as he lists picks he’ll actually be targeting in his tournament games below, along with detailed analysis and reasoning.
Monday, December 22nd
As we continue into the holiday season, the slates will become more sporadic until Dec 30th, but we do have a fairly good one tonight. Four games on FanDuel, with a late game which expects Washington to dominate. We also get my favorite game of the night, a battle between the Jekyll and Hyde teams of Miami FL and Providence.

Kansas
Primary Plays
Kelly Oubre – I think Oubre has finally arrived, playing 25 minutes last game and scoring 36 fantasy points. It took him a while to enter the starting lineup, but he has, and his performance against Lafayette is going to force Self to give him more minutes. He had to earn it, but it looks like Oubre has arrived. He is my favorite value play tonight.
Frank Mason – Mason has been quietly one of the most reliable plays in fantasy this year. He hits 20 every game and surpasses 30 in some. The injury to Devonte Graham has only kept him on the floor more minutes, and despite the fact that Temple has improved drastically on defense, they are still lacking at the guard spot defensively this year. Mason is a great cash game play as he will play a ton of minutes and contribute in all categories.
Secondary Plays
Perry Ellis – Ellis only played 14 minutes against Lafayette but it appears it was more because they did not need him. I expect him to get the full complement of minutes today against Temple as this game should be much closer. Self views Ellis as the go-to guy in the clutch and he will end up with the ball in a lot of possessions. I think he makes a great tournament play despite his recent struggles as he has monster upside and most everyone will be on Oubre tonight.
Temple
Primary Plays
Jaylen Bond – This is not the greatest matchup for Temple here against Kansas as they will certainly score less than they have recently, however there are still some pricing mistakes to take advantage of. Bond is still only 5,400 despite being Temple’s go to post player. The Texas transfer quickly inserted himself into the starting lineup after returning from injury and should get 30 minutes down low today. I think he has 30 point upside, even against Kansas.
Secondary Plays
Will Cummings – Cummings’ stock is going to be greatly boosted by the returns of Morgan and Bond this year, but he might not be targeted heavily against Kansas. I am not building my team around him but he has a very nice floor in this game and also has solid upside if Temple can pull the shocker at home. Cummings has a high usage rate and runs the point and should be able to reach 20 without much effort with 40 upside.
