CBB Grind Down: NYE Edition (Late)
Glean insight from one of the game’s best, Varncass, as he lists picks he’ll actually be targeting in his tournament games below, along with detailed analysis and reasoning.
Wednesday, December 31st (LATE)
Happy New Year’s Eve! After a solid slate yesterday for college hoops, we get an even bigger one, and enough games to have a split slate which is incredible. There is lots of money out there tonight and lots of analysis to get to. There should not be a whole lot of overlap with so many games, so it is all about making good, solid picks for today’s games.

Marquette
Primary Plays
Luke Fischer – Fischer has been awesome since become eligible for the Golden Eagles and has made their inside game something to be feared. This is a no-brainer here as he sits at only 6,500 and his floor is at 20 fantasy points tonight against the uptempo, and terrible defensive Blue Demons. He has 40 point upside against them as they have one of the worst interior defenses in the country.
Matt Carlino – Carlino should be used early and often in this game, and even though he has not had a lot of great games recently, everyone becomes good plays against DePaul. DePaul’s defense is an abomination and Marquette is a much better team now than they were at the beginning of the year. I could definitely see using multiple Marquette players as this game should end very highly scoring.
Secondary Plays
JaJuan Johnson – Johnson has actually been extremely productive since the Wisconsin game. He sits at min salary tonight and has had two 30 point fantasy performances in the last 3 games. He is not a great player, but gets about 20-25 minutes per game and is minimum salary. He is a decent risk to stack your team with top players.
DePaul
Primary Plays
Billy Garrett Jr. – Priced at only 5,900, I like Garrett as my top play from the Blue Demons. They should score a decent amount today as well being at home and being extremely uptempo themselves. Garrett is the assistant coaches’ son and the point guard who makes everything run here. I like him for 25 fantasy points tonight and while he has not flashed his upside yet, it is still in there.
Secondary Plays
Myke Henry – Uhh, well, I am not quite sure what happened to Henry in the last two games except that he was terrible. He went from being a guarantee for 30 fantasy points to having two games in single digits. If you want to gamble, he is certainly a good one as he is still taking almost 30 percent of DePaul’s shots, and has a good steal and block rate despite not doing much lately. He is their best wing and should have chances to do something good here.
