CBB Grind Down: Sat, Dec 20th (Early)
Glean insight from one of the game’s best, Varncass, as he lists picks he’ll actually be targeting in his tournament games below, along with detailed analysis and reasoning.
Saturday, December 20th (Early)
Just like last week, these plays are only for the Early games. I will have the late games up here as soon as the early games tip for FanDuel. This is the largest slate we have had so far and it should be good for some great unique rosters as there are a lot of good games out there today. Without any further ado, I will get right to the analysis.

SMU
Primary Plays
None – This should be a fairly low scoring game with Michigan actually a favorite which surprises me. Markus Kennedy will be back for this one and unfortunately is not in the player pool as he would make my favorite play of the day. Kennedy will take minutes and production away from most everyone on the team, and I hate that SMU might not break 60 in this one.
Secondary Plays
Nic Moore – I like Moore’s price at 6,400 here. He is the only one who will not be effected by Kennedy’s appearance and in fact, I think his production will actually benefit from his presence. Moore had some great games last year with Kennedy at the 4, and he should provide a few more assists for Moore in this game. He is definitely affordable and I do not hate his matchup against Walton.
Michigan
Primary Plays
None – With a lot of games on the docket today and this being one of the lower scoring, I am not building my team around anyone from this game. Michigan has been terrible offensively and both teams are extremely slow making this game undesireable to choose players from.
Secondary Plays
Derrick Walton Jr – Walton has been the one constant as Michigan has struggled. After a terrible couple of games against Syracuse and Oregon, he has rebounded with 20 points in the last three. He will be running the offense for Michigan here and I really like his matchup against Moore who is a below average defender. SMU struggles to defend the perimeter so Walton should be able to do damage today.
Caris LeVert – I generally do not like to pay up for high priced guards in low scoring games, but I could take a look at LeVert in some tournament lineups. LeVert has some crazy upside here with a large downside, but if he gets it going he can really stuff the stat sheet. LeVert will have to be on his perimeter game because with the addition of Kennedy, the SMU interior D just got that much better. I think we could see a lot of 3’s and mid-range jumpers today.
