CBB Grind Down: Saturday, March 14th

Championship Week is an exciting time, but also an odd one for CBB DFS. With the sites not posting their games (and prices) until a bit later, I will change it up here and go with a breakdown of the games instead of picking players.

Temple at SMU

Temple SMU
Vegas Total 127 Fast Break Pts/Gm 5.30 Vegas Total 127 Fast Break Pts/Gm 5.89
Vegas Sprd 3 Paint Pts/Gm 24.80 Vegas Sprd -3 Paint Pts/Gm 24.22
Team Proj. 62 Opponent TOs/GM 13.44 Team Proj. 65 Opponent TOs/GM 11.00
Ast/TO Ratio 97% Field Goal % 36.20% Ast/TO Ratio 114% Field Goal % 48.40%

This is the battle for not only an AAC title berth, but it is an almost must win for Temple’s at-large hopes. A lot of bracket bigwigs have Temple out right now and needing a win, while I believe they are much more safe than other people believe. Anyway, this pits two of the top defenses against each other in this game, which should make things not so great from a fantasy perspective. DeCosey has been great lately, making value in the last few games however I am not sure if his salary is going to increase. I love him around the $6,000 mark, anything higher than $6,300 and it becomes dicey. Cummings is a stud and should be the guy who does the damage for Temple today, and with Bond’s status uncertain I would expect Watson to step up in a value role. For SMU, I am a big fan of Nic Moore, but his price has risen lately and he makes only a GPP on both sites because of Temple’s solid defense. Markus Kennedy continues to be underpriced on DraftKings and if he is around the $6,500 spot, I like him there as well especially if Bond has to miss this game. Sterling Brown could also be an option but he did not start in the last game for SMU and is a little bit riskier than the other options.

Michigan State at Maryland

Michigan State Maryland
Vegas Total 132 Fast Break Pts/Gm 11.00 Vegas Total 132 Fast Break Pts/Gm 4.82
Vegas Sprd -2 Paint Pts/Gm 25.20 Vegas Sprd 2 Paint Pts/Gm 31.45
Team Proj. 67 Opponent TOs/GM 12.09 Team Proj. 65 Opponent TOs/GM 13.00
Ast/TO Ratio 142% Field Goal % 50.40% Ast/TO Ratio 96% Field Goal % 47.60%

You have to love this shot at Maryland for a third time if you are an MSU fan, especially because you are favored in this one. I am really not liking anyone on Maryland as Nairn has really stepped up his defensive game and should be able to somewhat shut down Trimble. Wells is going to be the only guy I look at like usual, as Dawson should play on Layman the entire time. Even though Wells is one of the most expensive guys, I believe the matchup dictates that he plays well and controls the game. On the Michigan State side, you can look at Costello, who is still cheap and outplaying Schilling right now (it is not even close) who might come close to value. Otherwise, you are basically looking at the Big Three in Valentine, Trice and Dawson and if Dawson’s price has not increased and he is still sitting just under 8k, I would jump all over him here. Neither Layman or Smotrycz can guard Dawson on the block and if the Terps use Dodd or anyone else, they are going to get slaughtered. Dawson is another matchup issue and with his price so low, I think you have to look at him seriously today.
