CBB Grind Down: Thursday, January 22nd
Glean insight from one of the game’s best, Varncass, as he lists picks he’ll actually be targeting in his tournament games below, along with detailed analysis and reasoning.
Thursday, January 22nd
Thursday offers a really nice 14-game slate, which usually means some solid CBB GPP action as the NBA slate is lacking on Thursdays. If you need your DFS hoops fix, it may seem a bit intimidating to just jump right into a 14-game college basketball slate, but no worries, we have the breakdown of all the games for you right here.
UCF at Connecticut

UCF
None – There is a large slate tonight, UConn is playing in the bottom third of all teams in tempo and have one of the top 30 defenses in the nation. Considering how terrible UCF’s offense is and that their projected total is under 60, I see no reason to risk using them as their prices are still inflated from the three overtime game. This is a clear fade for me.
Connecticut
Ryan Boatright – I am not a fan of this UConn team, and Boatright has been struggling lately, but I think this is a great spot for him to get back on track. Boat’s salary is 7,300 on FanDuel, which is one of the lowest salaries I have ever seen from him. This is definitely a buy opportunity against a UCF defense ranked 317th in the nation and gives it up inside and out. UCF is terrible and should get blown out here.
Amida Brimah – I think Brimah could be a viable option here today at 6,500. It is a bit more than I would like to pay for him as he has struggled to stay out of foul trouble lately, but UCF is allowing teams to shoot over 50% from inside the paint, they do not draw fouls very well especially with their bigs in the paint and they get blocked easily. While his price is expensive, I could see him being a very nice GPP gamble today as we all saw his upside against bad teams.
Notre Dame at Virginia Tech
Notre Dame | Virginia Tech
Vegas Total | 143 | Fast Break Pts/Gm | 7.82 | Vegas Total | 143 | Fast Break Pts/Gm | 10.11

Notre Dame
Zach Auguste – Auguste’s price at 5,800 leaves nothing to be desired, but put him on your team. Virginia Tech is super weak inside with a couple of majorly foul prone post players in Pierce and Henry. Notre Dame has done extremely well this year and are 11-point favorites on the road. Virginia Tech is fairly quick with a terrible defense and this sets up well for the Irish. Auguste’s price has plummeted since being suspended but he is back in the starting lineup now and his 5,800 price tag is incredible. I am going to be playing him everywhere.
Pat Connaughton – I was tempted to go with Grant here because I think his game is getting back on the right track, but I like Connaughton to make a bunch of 3’s against a Virginia Tech defense who gives it up to the perimeter like it’s going out of style. Virginia Tech is very short, and Connaughton will have the advantage on the boards as well. He has struggled since Auguste left, but with Auguste back I think he should have a great game against a terrible Virginia Tech defense.
Virginia Tech
Adam Smith – The Hokies are big dogs in this game and for good reason. They are going to be missing Bibbs again, have no post game and are against one of the best teams in the country. I do not see this going very well, but if Smith is back in the starting lineup, I could see him taking a ton of shots in this one. There really is not anyone I love from Virginia Tech but I do think Smith brings a lot of value as does Devin Wilson.
