Glean insight from one of the game’s best, Varncass, as he lists picks he’ll actually be targeting in his tournament games below, along with detailed analysis and reasoning.

Tuesday, December 9th

Looking ahead, aside from some really solid Saturday slates, there are going to be small, light slates for CBB during the week with some exceptions. Any two game slate, I will not post a front page article, but I will update the incentives section for a breakdown of how I think the games will play out. Any 3 game slate or more, it will proceed as normal. Towards the end of this month, we will hit conference play and things will really heat up for CBB including the contests.

Villanova

Primary Plays

Dylan Ennis – Ennis has been great for the Wildcats so far this year. He is playing a good amount of minutes regularly, is contributing in points, assists, and rebounds. He is priced at a meager 6,300 and allows for a solid scoring guard in the 2nd highest scoring game of the night. No one from Villanova is a high volume stud, but Ennis should hit 20 here easily.

Secondary Plays

Jayvaughn Pinkston – I have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for Pinkston to have a breakout game and to lead Villanova, but it just is not happening. His 6,600 price tag is a bit steeper than I would like but he is a big part of their team and that breakout could happen soon. I would classify him as a GPP play because he has had a very low floor this year despite his high ceiling that I see.

Daniel Ochefu – Ochefu has been better and more consistent than Pinkston and is 800 less, so I would go for Ochefu in cash games rather than Pinkston. Ochefu is rarely going to get you that 30 point fantasy game but for 5,800 you can fit some other studs in for that much.

Illinois

Primary Plays

Rayvonte Rice – Rice’s price is through the roof today, but for good reason. He is a high volume stud like no one that Villanova has. You can be sure he is going to take at least 10 shots in this game and help on the glass. His dud against American scares me, however the fact of the matter is, he has been great since putting on an Illinois uniform and could be your 2nd best bet for 40 today.

Secondary Plays

Ahmad Starks – Starks is getting 20-30 minutes per game but is priced to move at 4,600 today. His games have been just poor since the beginning of the season, but there is something to say about a starting point guard at minimum salary. I am not a big fan of Starks’ game, but he cannot be ignored today considering how cheap he is.
