CBB Grind Down: Wednesday, November 19th
Glean insight from one of the game’s best, Varncass, as he lists picks he’ll actually be targeting in his tournament games below, along with detailed analysis and reasoning.
Wednesday, November 19th
Only two games tonight, which makes for a bit of a small slate and a lot of overlap in players. Both games are going to be high scoring with high paced teams like Oklahoma and Arkansas playing in each. I generally try to target teams on the lower paced teams playing the higher paced teams as their salaries have not caught up with the high paced teams, however early on in the season there are still pricing mistakes and not a ton of the pricing has caught up with actuality.

Oklahoma
Prime Plays
Buddy Hield – His price is a little higher than I would like, but Hield is still a stud. He has a great 3-point stroke and is a proficient rebounder as a guard. He is strong and can dominate the weaker, smaller Creighton guards. Hield likes to get out and run as well and should be a solid play at his price today despite being highly owned.
TaShawn Thomas – I hope his first game dud scares everyone off of him today, because I will be going the other way and targeting Thomas everywhere. He is cheaper than I have ever seen him, and should still play a huge role on this Oklahoma team. I give him a free pass for struggling in the first game as he was just ruled eligible right before the game and Oklahoma had to prepare for their opener without him. He is one of the best shot blockers and rebounders and should love the high-tempo Sooners.
Secondary Plays
Isaiah Cousins – Cousins is a little bit less expensive and also makes a solid play. In the first game, Cousins actually had more 2-pt looks an more rebounds than Hield and could be taking over the Cameron Clark role from last year. Cousins is on the verge of a breakout season in the fantasy-point happy lineup of Oklahoma and should be on the radar here especially since James Milliken will most likely be guarding Cousins.
Creighton
Prime Plays
Devin Brooks – No Doug McDermott? No problem, we are still going to run high paced, efficient offense and score baskets with Devin Brooks being a big part of it. Brooks is a huge part of the offense here and can do everything. I am waiting for a breakout game from him and hopefully it comes here as he is quick and loves to run and gun. Oklahoma should set up for him perfectly and I am expecting a big performance.
Secondary Plays
Toby Hegner – Hegner is a 6-10 freshman who Greg McDermott has shown a ton of love for putting him side by side with Will Artino. Hegner reached 30+ minutes last game in a game which was much closer than the first one. All reports are looking like Hegner is going to be a big part of Creighton this season, and he is over 2,000 cheaper than Artino putting up similar stat lines.
