CFB DFS DraftKings Main Slate Breakdown: Week 1
Using his experience as a former scout and staff member at Central Florida under Josh Heupel, Jordan Vanek takes an in-depth look at the upcoming CFB DFS main slate on DraftKings. Formerly of The 33rd Team and 4for4 Fantasy Football, Jordan will do a deep dive into the best stacks, running backs, and wide receivers before giving his overall thoughts on some slate strategy.
This college football season is shaping up to be unlike any we’ve seen before. With a new 12-team playoff format, a flurry of conference realignments, and more marquee matchups on tap, there’s no shortage of excitement. Week 1’s main slate sets the tone perfectly with blockbuster games like Clemson vs. Georgia, Miami vs. Florida, and Penn State vs. West Virginia.
To kick off my breakdown, I’ll start with the top stacks and bring-back options. These are the building blocks of your lineup and the most critical piece of roster construction. From there, I’ll dive into mini stacks — the setups where I’m not in love with the quarterback play but see value in squeezing in those correlated pieces to optimize your lineup. Finally, I’ll wrap up with my top RBs and WRs and explain why they should be locked into your roster.
If you have any questions about my analysis or the slate overall, feel free to reach out in the RotoGrinders Discord.

CFB DFS DraftKings Picks: Top Stacks, Running Backs, & Wide Receivers for Week 1
Stacking & Bring-backs
Kyron Drones ($8,300, QB, Virginia Tech)
Da’Quan Felton ($6,700, WR, Virginia Tech)
Drones is the top quarterback option on this slate. Last season, he rushed for at least 50 yards in 9 of the 11 games he started, including two standout performances where he ran for 135 and 176 yards. This season, with more time to develop as a player, any improvement in his passing ability could elevate him to a $10,000 quarterback against many ACC opponents.
While stacking a running quarterback isn’t always my go-to strategy, I can’t overlook Felton’s potential with Drones, especially given Vanderbilt’s high zone-coverage rate. Felton had one of the highest target shares in the country against zone coverage last season, and I plan to capitalize on that usage. If you choose not to play this stack, I strongly recommend considering Bhayshul Tuten, as Vanderbilt’s defense remains highly vulnerable.
