PaytonThorneCFB1

Using his experience as a former scout and staff member at Central Florida under Josh Heupel, Jordan Vanek takes an in-depth look at the upcoming CFB DFS main slate on DraftKings. Formerly of The 33rd Team and 4for4 Fantasy Football, Jordan will do a deep dive into the best stacks, running backs, and wide receivers before giving his overall thoughts on some slate strategy.

What a great call on Cam Ward, but a miss on Samuel Brown, and plenty of chalk plays came through on the Week 1 slate. One note for everybody playing, chalk is chalk for a reason in college football, and it may take till the fourth quarter for it to get there (Kyron Drones) but it seems to find a way at such a high rate.

This week is always fascinating to see how people react to just one week of sample size. For me, I focus on how the offense is operating, the pace they play with, and the context of their opponent. This week’s slate features several teams coming off lopsided games, and those teams will be crucial to this week’s strategy.

Now let’s get into this week’s slate.

The Bobby Petrino offense at Arkansas looked electric, and it all started with Taylen Green. Green’s dynamic rushing ability opens up the entire offense, and once he found his rhythm as a passer, it took things to another level. For example, Ja’Quinden Jackson found plenty of rushing lanes, especially cut-back opportunities, because defensive ends had to account for Green’s legs, and he was running the ball with precision. Oklahoma State will have to stack the box to contain this attack, and when they do, that’s when Tyrone Broden becomes a deep threat. Broden’s size is something Oklahoma State’s cornerbacks can’t match, and in his first game with Green, he was targeted 7 times on 31 routes with an impressive average depth of target at 17.3 yards. Sure, Andrew Armstrong is projected to return for this team, but his role won’t impact what Broden brings to the table. I’m also fine with saving some salary on TE Luke Hasz at $3,300, or if you can’t find the extra $200 for Broden, pivoting to Isaiah Sategna, who will likely operate in the slot where Oklahoma State struggled to defend Griffin Wilde last weekend.
