Using his experience as a former scout and staff member at Central Florida under Josh Heupel, Jordan Vanek takes an in-depth look at the upcoming CFB DFS main slate on DraftKings for Week 7. Formerly of The 33rd Team and 4for4 Fantasy Football, Jordan’s deep dive into the best stacks, running backs, and wide receivers is a must-read before you start building your lineups.

This weekend’s slate is loaded with high point totals and several teams dealing with key injuries. While I love the real-life matchup between Indiana and Oregon, it’s not one I’ll be heavily targeting for fantasy purposes. There are plenty of cheap options across the board, but a few stand out above the rest—and those are the ones I’ll be focusing on in this breakdown.

There’s a lot of injury news to monitor; that’s why our CFB DFS projections are so important. They’ll be updated constantly on Saturday as news breaks, giving you a read on ownership and lineup edges.

This weekend features several teams that play a heavy dose of man coverage, creating opportunities for high-upside plays. Take UCF, for example—they run man coverage at one of the highest rates in the country, which opens rushing lanes for mobile quarterbacks who can avoid sacks. Just look at Avery Johnson in Week 5 when he ran for 78 yards. Against man coverage, Brendan Sorsby has a clear favorite target—and it happens to align with where UCF is most vulnerable. On the other hand, you have zone-heavy defenses like Pittsburgh. That matchup is intriguing because of how Florida State uses pre-snap motion. If Pitt’s secondary doesn’t communicate effectively on the back end, Duce Robinson is in position to capitalize with explosive plays.

Illinois is the easiest team to discuss from this graph. They’ve shown no indication of becoming a two-high defense, and that should remain the case in this matchup. However, defensive coordinators can be stubborn—this DC wasn’t afraid to give Ohio State single-high looks while coaching at Purdue last season, and that same tendency should carry over here. Colorado also leans heavily on single-high and man coverage. Slot receivers have consistently found success against them, but Iowa State doesn’t feature the slot as prominently in its passing game, which makes this an intriguing matchup.
