CFB FFwd/Rew Week 12
Welcome to Rewind/Fast Forward. Each week in this article I will hand pick several games and watch them through. Sometimes the box-score can lie and the only way to know the truth is by actually watching the game..or reading an article of someone who did. That is me. I will break down my observations of the previous game and what impacts it could have on the following week and even the entire year moving forward.

| No. 5 Stanford 26, No. 3 Oregon 20 | Utah at No. 6 Oregon | No. 4 Stanford at USC |

- Rewind This was a solid game. It told us a lot about both teams. Mariota was obviously hurt. No doubt in my mind he was a shell of what he normally is. Stanford is a run stuffing team, but I still don’t know how the Black Mamba only gets 10 touches. Tyler Gaffney, for Stanford, with 45 carries is unreal. That’s pretty much how you beat Oregon and keep the offense off the field. To me, these points were the whole story of this game. Lack of DT touches, Mariota hurt and Gaffney the entire offense for Stanford.
- FFwd Oregon bounces back against Utah this week. I’m off Mariota due to health concerns. Utah is not a bad team against the run so I am a little skeptical of DT and splitting carries with Marshall. They may all be out priced at this point. Addison may be worth a flier as the leading WR against a bad pass defense.
Stanford travels to USC. This will be boring and uneventful. The only Stanford player worth his price is Gaffney. They may feed him another 35 carries since he is the offense and it’s a big game. USC has found new life under a new coach. However the RB situation is jumbled with injuries. We don’t know the status of Silas Redd who left in the 1st Q with an injury Saturday. Plus Stanford run defense is sick. Marquis Lee may be worth a flier here. At least he made it through 2 straight games now with no injuries.

| No. 24 Wisconsin 27, Brigham Young 17 | Indiana at No. 22 Wisconsin | Idaho State at Brigham Young |

- Rewind Oh man, did I get burned by Melvin Gordon. I had a bad feeling right at roster lock time that Gordon was a poor play but didn’t change my pick. And it’s not as though 80 yards is terrible, but you come to expect alot more. And watching James White rack up yards and TD’s is disappointing. James White is outplaying him right now and looks like the better back. Carries are still close, but White is doing more with them. Maybe it’s a lingering injury for Gordon. Once again Jared Abbrederis was his stellar self with 8 catches. Wisconsin plays tough defense so I am not surprised that BYU could do nothing on offense until garbage time. Expect a bounce back for BYU next game.
- FFwd As for the next game, BYU takes on an inferior opponent in Idaho State. If there is a site giving you BYU players than take Hill, Williams and Hoffman and roster them. Don’t look back. Those are easy points right there.
Wisconsin has the intriguing play of the day facing Indiana in Wisconsin. It’s interesting on many fronts. I think both RB’s are in play. However due to the blowout factor in this also the 3rd back, Corey Clement, is in play. He’s really good also. Abbrederis is a mystery in this game because although the matchup is great, I don’t think they need to pass at all. I’d rank them White then Gordon followed by Clement and Abbrederis for Wisconsin players to roster in this one. Wisc plays that solid defense so it’s hard for me to trust any 1 particular Indiana weapon here.

| No. 19 UCLA 31, Arizona 26 | Washington State at Arizona | Washington at No. 13 UCLA |

- Rewind UCLA brought us a new fantasy player in the mix this week. With Jordan James out again, and Paul Perkins struggling on the ground, the Bruins turned to Myles Jack for some offense. This dude is a freshman. Oh yeah, he’s also the starting LB on defense. He is just a fantastic athlete that jump started a ho-hum offense in this game with a 66 yard TD run. He will be more involved moving forward in the offense. Shaq Evans put together a great game with 2 TD’s, so don’t expect too much more from him this year. That’s about his quota. For Arizona, BJ Denker impressed again. 2 passing TD’s and 82 rushing yards against a tough defense. He is moving up the ladder of CFB solid QB starters every week now. Carey with a typical big game for him of 150 yards and a TD.
- FFwd UCLA takes on Washington this week. I would not hesitate to roster Brett Hundley. I’ll pass on Perkins or Shaq Evans, but it would be interesting to see if Myles Jack will be part of the player pool. If so, for the right price, I would take a shot at him. He could do some real damage with only 10 carries. This kid is a super special athlete. Washington brings the same ole same as Bishop Sankey is a top 5 play again.
Arizona gets Washington State and I’ll pass on Wazzu players in this one. Maybe Halliday, if he still has a QB job. Carey and Denker make solid plays again though for Arizona.

| Duke 38, North Carolina State 20 | North Carolina State at Boston College | No. 23 Miami (FL) at Duke |

- Rewind Don’t let the score fool you, this was a defensive struggle and it was pretty boring to watch. You can throw out a freak 80 yard TD pass by NC State with 6 minutes left and then 2 Duke defensive TD’s after that and see what type of game it really was. NC State split reps at QB. No good for fantasy. What’s even worse for fantasy is that Brandon Mitchell is the worst passer I have ever seen at QB. This guy makes Tim Tebow look like Joe Montana with his accuracy. Shad Thornton was gain solid, yet unspectacular and defenses are creeping up in the box when Mitchell is in the game. This hurts all the offense. For Duke, Anthony Boone was benched in the 2nd half for being ineffective. No running game again for Duke. And that stat line looked good for Crowder with 7 catches for 134, but he hit a 75 yard pass his first touch of the game. Really nothing after that. After that 1st play bomb he had 6 catches for 59 yards. Scary stuff there for his salary.
- FFwd NC State takes on Boston College this week. BC is middle of the road on defense. However I don’t think I can play anyone for NC State due to the ineffectiveness of this offense right now. Thornton is your best bet, but he comes with risk also as his salary creeps up along with the defensive fronts of the opposing teams. BC has Amidon and Andre Williams in play as usual.
Duke is home to take on a reeling Miami team. Duke plays better defense than given credit for. This is not your typical bad Duke defense. Miami is 1 dimensional right now with Morris being really bad and Duke ranks 33rd in the nation in scoring defense. Maybe Crawford is your best bet for Miami. For Duke, it looks like a pass this weekend for me. QB situation is shaky and Miami has talent on defense. No thanks to that combo.
