CFB FFwd/Rew Week 15
Welcome to Rewind/Fast Forward. Normally this is an article breaking down last weeks observations and tackling the upcoming games. I am going to change it up this week since there is only a handful of games. I’m going to take a quick look at some of this weekends games. Hope you all enjoyed the content RG put out this year, I think it was top notch and better than any CFB fantasy site has ever had for a daily breakdown.

Texas at No. 9 Baylor

This is going to be one of the better games on this short slate. For Texas, Malcom Brown is your starting RB to take. It was a bit disconcerting that he got 17 carries taken from him last week by Joe Bergeron, but Brown is still #1 here. However in a sneaky, out of the box, GPP style play might be to take shot on Bergeron here. He does get goal line carries for the most part. Depending on salary, Case McCoy might be in play with such a small number of games. Mike Davis is a solid receiver.
Baylor got much healthier this past week with the addition of Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin back to the mix. Both are acceptable plays. Bryce Petty is always a top option but price is killer on him right now. Goodley is your #1 wr although he got shut down by a tough TCU defense last game. Be aware though that Texas is always playing much better defense than they were earlier in the year. In fact Texas has been solid on defense the majority of the last 6 games as they have slowly grasped the system of their new defensive coordinator after the early season firing of their old one.

No. 5 Missouri vs. No. 4 Auburn*

This is the game I’m looking forward to the most. Auburn games are starting to become must see TV. The crazy tipped pass bomb a couple weeks ago to beat Georgia and then we all saw that unreal ending to the Bama game. Now Mizzu rolls up and they are a good team also. This is going to be a barnburner. As far as fantasy goodness, it’s a tough call. Missouri plays solid defense. They controlled Manziel and they dominate the line in most games. They rank top 25 in the nation in yards given up per carry. They are tough to run against and Auburn wants to run. I’m not thrilled about playing Marshall or Mason, although Mason has been matchup proof.
Missouri is a solid all-around offense that can bog down at times. They have 3 solid WR’s and DGB (Dorial Green Beckham) is the guy I favor most. Franklin doesn’t excite me a whole bunch in this one. Josey is my guy at RB that I want to play every week. However sometimes you have to step back and realize that he just doesn’t get the ball enough to be a great back. Another 13 carries against A&M and that’s been his average all year. I may be off that train this week and just enjoy the game as a CFB fan.

No. 8 Stanford at No. 12 Arizona State

Later evening action brings us the Pac-12 championship game between these 2 solid teams. These are 2 teams with solid defenses and solid offenses so something has to give. Early reports are that Marion Grice will be out again and in that case you can’t beat a value play like DJ Foster if the price hasn’t risen too much. He filled in last week and racked up 150 total yards and 2 TD’s for a low price. If Stanford has a weakness it is through the air so Jaelen Strong looks like a good play. Taylor Kelly is a top option most weeks but his price reflects that. A little too rich for my blood in this set of games.
Stanford just keeps rolling on offense and Gaffney is as good as any RB paying this week. He’s just a steady grinder that churned out another nice 189 yard game with a TD this past week. Kevin Hogan is very hit or miss but he has to be considered in a small game set. If I’m playing a WR for Stanford it will be Ty Montgomery as he showed he can have big games with that huge 5 TD game a couple weeks ago.
2013 CFB DFS Awards
CFB Daily Fantasy QB of the Year – Bryce Petty – There was some tough competition here, but not really. Weird huh? I see names like Manziel, Boyd Mariota and Winston, and they are all great. However it was really no comeptition. Petty started off the year with a reasonable salary. So he was actually affordable, unlike some of the other guys. Petty was amazing though statistically and consistency wise. 28 passing TD’s, 11 rushing TD’s and at one point he had 8 straight games with a passing AND a rushing TD. Great floor and high ceiling.
CFB Daily Fantasy RB of the Year – Bishop Sankey – This was a 2man battle all the way. Sankey edged out Andre Williams in my voting though simply because at one point this year he was an absolute machine. Williams had some HUGE games, but he also had games of 38, 70 and 29 yards along the way. He also never caught passes…I mean literally never. Sankey caught 25 passes for an extra 300 yards this season. He scored a TD in every single game this year. He had 1 poor game all year vs. Arizona State, but he still managed to score a TD. He was just simply matchup proof and if you paid up for him every week you won a ton of money this year.
CFB Daily Fantasy WR of the Year – Brandin Cooks – No brainer. I don’t even need to look for competition in this category. We should have known something special was coming when he stormed on the scene with a 13 catch 196 yard 2 TD performance opening weekend. No matter whom he played after that he dominated. 9 catches for 110 total yards was his worst fantasy day of the year. Otherwise he was disgustingly sick. He averaged 10 catches every time he played. He scored 17 TD’s this year. I freaking loved this guy and paid up for him whenever I could.
CFB Daily Fantasy TE of the Year – Jace Amaro – I didn’t even need to throw this category in here, cause there was no peer for this future NFL stud. But I wanted to recognize the greatness that is Jace Amaro. We have to throw out the first game because he was suspended until halftime. After that his worst game came against Baylor where he had 4 catches…and 2 TD’s! Otherwise he was a lock all year for 9 catches and near 100 yards out of a thin position. He may be the most valuable DFS player in all this year due to that position scarcity. I had this guy in my lineup every single week and he killed it for me. He never let a fantasy owner down. Thanks Jace, you will be missed.
CFB Daily Fantasy Surprise of the Year – Andre Williams – I think he kind of snuck up on everyone this year. Last year he had a couple of 100 yard games, but that was it. This offense was all Alex Amidon last season. Then he comes out in game 2 and puts up a nice 200 yard game. OK, no big deal. Nice 1 hit wonder is what I thought. But then in his 5th game is when he had the coming out party. The 263 yard 5 TD game against Army. After that he was on everyone’s radar. Along the way he also had games of 295,339 and 263 again. Wow. Thanks for a fine senior season Andre.
CFB Daily Fantasy Bust of the Year – Marqise Lee – I looked long and hard and debated, but to me Marqise was the bust of the year. You could tell right away that things were going to be rough when we saw how bad his QB was on opening week. And to think that the 8 catch 104 yards opening game against Hawaii was going to be the highlight of the year for him. Ouch. The next week he had 7 catches for all of 27 whole yards. Horrid. He only reached 7 catches 1 more time the entire year. He finishes up with 2 total TD’s. This comes from a guy who was supposed to be the best WR in the nation with the offense all to himself after Robert Woods left. It just never happened. I’ll always remember your great 2012 Marqise, but your 2013 was terrible. You get a fantasy RIP bro.
