CFB Slate Breakdown: Week 6 (Evening Slate)
Kent State -5 (35) vs Buffalo (30)
Kent State
Dustin Crum was fantasy gold last season. This season his numbers have been artificially depressed because of competition. If it wasn’t tough competition of top 10 ranked teams, it was a blowout to VMI. Against Bowling Green last week, we should have our first example of true fantasy upside. He ran quite well, almost getting 100 yards on the ground but didn’t throw to his previous benchmarks. This game figures to be a nice show-out game. He’s only $6,800 and I expect many people to be on this play if only for the 35 implied point total for Kent State. Crum is a true dual threat so he has a floor of around 20 points in this matchup with a much bigger ceiling than he’s had in any matchup this season thus far. I don’t think you have to pair Crum with any of his pass catchers. However if you do, I think the target is Dante Cephas. He leads the team with 36 targets with Nykeim Johnson (transfer from Syracuse) coming in second with 33. Cephas has 20 targets in his last two games. Nykeim is working out of the slot and really hasn’t done much with his targets. I wish he was cheaper. Unfortunately, $4,600 really pushes him out of any cash game builds for me. I do like him as a GPP shout because I do think his speed will create mismatches with Buffalo that Kent State really hasn’t had much this season sans the Bowling Green game. Running back Marquez Cooper was averaging around 11 carries per game before the 31 carry / 2 TD performance last week against Bowling Green. It’s really tough to try and figure out if that is the future for Cooper’s workload or the standard. At $6,300, he’s worth the fade use of Dustin Crum in GPPs, but I’m not seeing myself rostering both Crum and Cooper in the same cash lineup and I think Crum wins over Cooper when deciding which of the two to jam into your lineup.
