Happy Monday! We are down to the final three days of the regular season, where Tom Foolery and Shenanigans will certainly ensue. There are just a small handful of relevant games in the final days, with most teams either resting and prepping for the playoffs or planning their off-season vacation plans. It is officially time to be cautious with pitch counts on any pitchers on teams that have already clinched, but we’re still not likely to get any actual useful information ahead of time.
Monday Night Pitching
Brandon Woodruff vs Diamondbacks
Aaron Nola at Astros
Joe Musgrove vs Giants
George Kirby vs Tigers
Luis Severino at Rangers
Carlos Carrasco vs Nationals
Lance McCullers vs Phillies
Brandon Woodruff and Aaron Nola are the two aces in must-win games and they also have the two highest strikeout rates on this slate. Neither matchup is ideal, but they are both elite enough to shut down any opponent. Adding in the recent trends, it’s quite clear that Woodruff has earned the SP1 title for tonight. He has the preferred matchup to begin with, and has double-digit strikeouts in four straight starts, while not walking more than two batters in a game in any of his last 10 outings. Nola is great, but in Houston, he’s just an MME leftover compared to Woodruff tonight.
