CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Friday, June 11th

Happy Friday! We’ve got a big 13-game slate tonight that is loaded with ace pitching. As of this morning, it looks like we’ve got weather concerns in Washington again tonight, but unlike yesterday, there is no shortage of pivots away from Max Scherzer if necessary. It looks like we’ll have just a couple primary spots for bats with everything else coming in a little under the radar.

Friday Night Pitching

It’s loaded up top with this group of aces:

Jacob deGrom vs San Diego – 45.4% K, 3.9% BB, 0.62 ERA, 1.66 SIERA
Max Scherzer vs San Francisco – 36.1% K, 5.2% BB, 2.22 ERA, 2.65 SIERA
Brandon Woodruff vs Pittsburgh – 32.5% K, 6% BB, 1.42 ERA, 2.90 SIERA
Clayton Kershaw vs Texas – 28.3% K, 4.6% BB, 3.66 ERA, 3.17 SIERA
Lucas Giolito at Detroit – 30.4% K, 8.4% BB, 3.88 ERA, 3.46 SIERA
Blake Snell at NY Mets – 33.2% K, 13.3% BB, 4.83 ERA, 3.78 SIERA
Shohei Ohtani – 34.1% K, 14.8% BB, 2.76 ERA, 3.89 SIERA

There is so much talent in this group that we’re very likely to see a couple big scores tonight at pitcher. This always leaves me more inclined to avoid the mediocre cheap options, and worry about saving salary with bats. But there are some more upside options in the mid-tier tonight, with these guys all having some strikeout ability:

Charlie Morton at Miami – 27.2% K, 8.3% BB, 4.21 ERA, 3.58 SIERA
Tyler Mahle vs Colorado – 28.2% K, 7.8% BB, 3.32 ERA, 3.60 SIERA
Sandy Alcantara vs Atlanta – 23.3% K, 6.9% BB, 3.30 ERA, 3.79 SIERA
Tarik Skubal vs White Sox – 28.3% K, 10.8% BB, 4.33 ERA, 4.08 SIERA
Keegan Akin at Tampa – 21.7% K, 4.8% BB, 3.60 ERA, 3.86 SIERA
Aaron Civale vs Seattle – 18.3% K, 5.7% BB, 3.49 ERA, 4.37 SIERA
Jose Urquidy at Minnesota – 21.4% K, 4.5% BB, 3.76 ERA, 4.17 SIERA
