CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Friday, June 25th
Happy Friday! We’ve got a 13-game slate tonight that comes with several weather concerns and more offense than pitching. The chalk offenses came through last night, and it looks like more of the same with the Blue Jays and Astros up top again tonight. Let’s dive in and see what we find.
Friday Night Pitching
There’s not a lot to see out here, and these are the three tiers I end up with:
Carlos Rodon vs Mariners – 36.6% K, 7% BB, 1.83 ERA, 2.71 SIERA
Framber Valdez at Tigers – 22.1% K, 6.9% BB, 1.67 ERA, 3.17 SIERA
Sean Manaea at Giants – 24.9% K, 5.9% BB, 3.01 ERA, 3.77 SIERA
Chris Paddack vs Diamondbacks – 25.8% K, 5.3% BB, 4.10 ERA, 3.56 SIERA
Pablo Lopez vs Nationals – 25% K, 6.2% BB, 2.86 ERA, 3.65 SIERA
Mike Minor at Rangers – 25.8% K, 7% BB, 4.48 ERA, 3.83 SIERA
Alek Manoah vs Orioles – 27.3% K, 9.1% BB, 4.18 ERA, 3.94 SIERA
Yusei Kikuchi at White Sox – 25.3% K, 8.1% BB, 3.46 ERA, 3.77 SIERA
Griffin Canning at Rays – 24.4% K, 10.1% BB, 5.07 ERA, 4.37 SIERA
Hwang Hyun Kim vs Pirates – 20.2% K, 8.3% BB, 3.60 ERA, 4.47 SIERA
Dan Dunning vs Royals – 24.8% K, 8% BB, 4.71 ERA, 3.71 SIERA
If There’s Only One Ace…

Carlos Rodon has far and away the best skill set of any pitcher tonight and he also has one of the best matchups on the board against Seattle. Salary is the only thing that could stop this one from qualifying as a ‘Don’t Overthink It’. On DK, short of trying to go Rodon/Valdez, salary is going to be fine, and I’ll just start with Rodon in the vast majority of lineups. On FD, there is a bigger gap between him and some other strong pitchers, but it’s not as big as the gap in skills. This is a simple case of playing Rodon in every single lineup where it’s possible with the salary.
