CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Friday, May 28th
I got up ridiculously early today (like meansy hours early), and by the time I got my initial research done, Roth was already tweeting out bad news on the weather front. So, anyway, Happy Friday! Yesterday was a bit of a mess with different slate sizes and changes, double-headers and 7-inning games and late pitcher scratches. I was hoping things would calm down for the end of the week, but it is not to be with several games being in the Red/Orange category to start the day. While things can change, and we’ll keep an eye on it, I’m going to start this morning by assuming that we do not have baseball tonight in Washington, New York or Boston. We’ll re-adjust throughout the day if needed, and then I’ll be on Crunchtime tonight at 6:30pm ET with Roth to go over any final thoughts on weather.
Friday Night Pitching
This is one of the easiest slates we’ve seen in weeks as far as sorting pitchers into tiers. There is Gerrit Cole all by himself up top, then a small group of very good pitchers, and then a group of cheaper, lesser skilled pitchers in good matchups. This is what it looks like:
THE COLE
Gerrit Cole at Detroit – 38.5% K, 3.3% BB, 1.81 ERA, 2.11 SIERA
GOOD STUFF
Walker Buehler vs San Francisco – 26.6% K, 3.6% BB, 2.78 ERA, 3.28 SIERA
Sean Manaea vs LA Angels – 23.6% K, 4.8% BB, 4.17 ERA, 3.73 SIERA
Shohei Ohtani at Oakland – 34.9% K, 17.1% BB, 2.37 ERA, 4.11 SIERA
Hyun-Jin Ryu at Cleveland – 24.6% K, 2.8% BB, 2.53 ERA, 3.24 SIERA
Madison Bumgarner vs St. Louis – 25.1% K, 6.3% BB, 4.53 ERA, 3.85 SIERA
(Ian Anderson at NY Mets)
GOOD MATCHUPS AND/OR DECENT PITCHERS
Dallas Keuchel vs Baltimore – 12.3% K, 7.5% BB, 4.28 ERA, 4.52 SIERA
Justus Sheffield vs Texas – 17% K, 9% BB, 5.11 ERA, 4.79 SIERA
Randy Dobnak vs Kansas City – 18.2% K, 5.7% BB, 5.75 ERA, 3.56 SIERA
Jordan Lyles at Seattle – 19.8% K, 8.1% BB, 5.94 ERA, 4.59 SIERA
