CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings - MLB DFS Strategy: Monday, May 9th
Happy Monday! I hope you had a grand slam of a weekend, like everyone else. You know what would make for an interesting sport? If we played with a dead baseball, but then anytime the bases are loaded, the ump secretly tosses out one of the 2019 balls. Hmmm.
We’ve got a 9-game slate for DK starting at 6:35pm ET, while FD is running a 7-game slate at the usual 7:10pm ET start time. This is a wildly uninspiring slate for offenses, with very few teams even at a 4-run projected total. Let’s dig in and see what we find.
Monday Night Pitching
One Ace, And Then A Couple Lesser Kings
Carlos Rodon vs Rockies
Brandon Woodruff at Reds (DK)
Julio Urias at Pirates (DK)

Things are quite different between the sites tonight, with DK adding Brandon Woodruff and Julio Urias to the slate, while FD is looking at a Lone Ace situation with Carlos Rodon. With Rodon only at $10,000 on DK, the question is less about if he’s the top play, and more about if we’re pairing him with a second ace. Rodon gets a full pass from me on seeing a lower strikeout game against the Dodgers, and I’m continuing to ride the train with his current 36.9% K rate.
Brandon Woodruff turned on the gas last week, striking out 12 batters in five innings against this same Reds lineup. He had his best fastball velocity of the season, up to essentially his usual level. The start to the season was rough, but it appears as if he’s past that, and I’m on board with his skills. It is not even crazy at all to make a case to play him ahead of Rodon if just using one of them, but I’m sticking with Rodon as the SP1 and Woodruff as the ideal SP2 on DK.
