CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Saturday, July 31st
Happy Saturday! It was a wildly eventful trading deadline in MLB, and is going to leave us with a lot question marks until we get starting lineups today. Luckily, our friend STLCards was already planning to have the day off today, so he will have time to show the new Cardinals pitchers around the Shady Acres Retirement Village where they will be living for the rest of this season.
We’ve got a nine-game main slate this evening, but we’ll start with a quick glance at the 5-game afternoon slate that starts at 4:05 pm ET.
Early Slate Pitching
There are no aces on this slate, but there are a bunch of pretty good pitchers in good matchups at fair prices:
Trevor Rogers vs Yankees
Domingo German at Marlins
Alex Wood vs Astros
John Means at Tigers
Zack Greinke at Giants
Nathan Eovaldi at Rays
Ryan Yarbrough vs Red Sox
Cole Irvin at Angels
Matt Manning vs Orioles
Between the matchup, the salary and what he did in his last start, Domingo German is bound to be the chalk on DK. He is coming off far and away his best start of the season with a 10-K, seven outing games against Boston. Overall, he is closer to an average strikeout pitcher, but there’s always been upside potential here, with a career 25.6% K rate. My only note of caution here is the same as it was with Taillon yesterday. I just don’t trust that there is really any leash here. The 93 pitches he threw last weekend was the first time he topped 75 pitches since early June. Still, on this slate, even if you only give him 75-8- pitches and five innings, at $6,500 on DK, he’s still going to be the top play. I’m more interested in looking for some reason to get away from him too heavily on FD.
