CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Thursday, April 15th
Happy Thursday! We’ve got another split slate day with a five-game main slate at the usual time, following a 12:10pm ET start on DK and a 12:20pm ET start on FD.
After the Houston debacle last night and several of the better pitchers with duds, I was quite excited to have Jacob deGrom on this early slate so we at least got one thing we didn’t need to worry about. But, no dice there. Thanks Roth! It looks like the Phillies-Mets game has extreme weather concerns, which makes it tough to pay top dollar for a pitcher who may not even make it out of the dugout.
Let’s dig in and see what else we can find on this early slate, and then I’ll be back a bit later with the main slate analysis.
Early Slate Pitching
We’ve got a very different setup between DK and FD for this early slate. FD has included just four games, while DK has six. It’s not just the difference of the two games, but the fact that one of them is a Jacob deGrom start for the Mets. That would make the pitching very different on each site if the Mets game clears up with the weather.
If the rain were to go away in New York, on DK where he’s available, there is nothing to think with Jacob deGrom at this point. Every skill is elite and it’s possible he’s still getting better after what we’ve seen through two starts. He’s been over 31% strikeouts three straight years, and jumping into the party this year with 42.9% K and just 4.1% walks. It’s silly to even care at all about matchup with this guy. He’s the top pitcher on this slate, if not any slate. Just play him. Sure, $11,000 is a lot, but it could be more and it would be OK. However, we are likely going to just scratch that whole paragraph. Thanks Roth!
