CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Thursday, July 1st
Happy July! We’ve got a split slate Thursday with a seven-game main slate, but also a 4-5 game early slate depending on what site you’re playing on. Before we jump into this, let’s touch on the Wednesday Wackiness for a minute.
The first thing I want to say is that I always going to be willing to go above the field on high risk plays if I see the upside case for them. But sometimes, if not most of the time, those plays will absolutely not work out, as we saw last night with Shohei Ohtani and the return of his control woes. I am always very torn on the best way to present those thoughts to you. There is a fine line between just giving you the obvious best plays that are going to be easy to spot and trying to find something a little off the radar with potential upside. It eats me up like you wouldn’t believe when someone follows one of my thoughts and it goes wrong. I don’t care one iota when my lineups bust, but I care a plethora of iotas when yours do.
To re-iterate something I say here all the time, I am not trying to predict outcomes of baseball games, I simply don’t know what is going to happen. I am looking at the data to see what is most likely to happen, and also what could happen. I am also not here to tell you who to play or how much to play them. The goal here has always been and will continue to be to walk you through my thought process and what I’m looking at, and within that, I will be telling you who I am playing the most on that day. Sometimes, those guys that I am playing the most of, like Mr. Ohtani, will turn into a disaster. Just know that these disasters will not deter me from getting right back to the grindstone the next day and remain willing to take on risk in return for upside.
So, with that, let’s jump into this Thursday slate and hope that the Ohtani, Musgrove, Ober and 5th inning of Nola can be avoided today!
H3. Early Slate Overview
The early slate today is a 5-gamer on DK and a 4-gamer on FD. We’ve got another day with weather issues, so keep an eye on the Roth report before locking anything in today. We’ve got some solid pitching options to work from, with the top tier looking like this:
Carlos Rodon vs Twins
Hyun Jin Ryu vs Mariners
Jose Berrios at White Sox
Sean Manaea vs Rangers (DK)
Nathan Eovaldi vs Royals
