CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Thursday, May 13th
Happy Thursday! We’ve got a split slate kind of day with an early 5-gamer at 12:20pm ET followed by a 6-game slate at 7:10pm ET. I’ll start with a quick look at the early slate, and then be back in a couple hours with some analysis for the evening games.
Early Slate Pitching
This slate is headlined by the return of Corbin Burnes in a matchup of aces against Jack Flaherty. These are both great pitchers, but Burnes has been at another level this season. The trick here is that Burnes has missed two weeks and we don’t have any official word on whether there will be any pitch count concerns here. The good news is that it was asymptomatic covid and not an injury, so he was allowed to throw and work out on his own as usual. My assumption here is that we see his typical 85-90 pitches, but with no realistic chance to get above that. He has been so dominant in his 85-90 pitch outings that I am playing him as normal, which means he is SP1 on this slate. There is just no way to argue with 49 strikeouts and zero walks in 29 innings. Until he gives me any reason to doubt him, I do not doubt him.
