CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Tuesday, April 6th
Happy Tuesday! Similar to yesterday, MLB has spread games throughout the day, which leaves us with a nice sized eight-game main slate. We’ve also got most rotations flipping back over and starting at the top, so there are several aces to choose from and a more obvious gap between the top offenses and the leftovers. We do have to deal with Coors Field again, but at least it’s not the Dodgers. Let’s get into it and see what we see.
TUESDAY NIGHT BIG PICTURE
The way this slate shapes up, I’m going to go about things a little differently today in this article. The salary gap between the most expensive and least expensive pitchers is small compared to what we usually see, and this makes it a lot easier on a slate like this to just play one of the top pitchers and move on with your day. The first thing I did to test whether or not it’s even remotely relevant to look at cheaper pitchers is to go to DraftKings and click in the following names:
Lucas Giolito and Tyler Glasnow at pitcher, with Ketel Marte, David Peralta and Christian Walker in Coors Field. Two stud pitchers and the middle of a good offense in Coors and I still have $3,760 per bat on DK. This is just silly and too easy.
On FanDuel, I plugged in Giolito with Marte, Peralta and Walker and am left with $2,800 per bat. Again, too easy.
If you’re just building one optimal today for cash games or something similar, there is nothing to research or spend your time on. Go ahead and take the dogs for a walk, watch some Seinfeld reruns, or actually do the work that you’re supposed to be doing on the days when you are usually in your office looking at baseball stats on company time. (Nobody does that!). It’s absolutely as simple as playing one or two of the top four pitchers – Darvish, Giolito, Kershaw, Glasnow, plugging in whatever Coors Field bats you prefer and then tossing in one or two underpriced bats to finish things out.
