CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Tuesday, August 10th
Happy Tuesday! After a weird and weathery Monday, we are back with a full slate that has rain scattered all over the place, but at this point, none of it looks like something that will be too big a deal. We’ve got 13 games on FD and 15 on DK with doubleheaders included, but that doesn’t end up changing too much between the sites. We’ve got a handful of aces, but overall, it’s another one of those muddled slates where everything is kind of OK, but nothing is outstanding. Let’s jump in and see what we find.
Tuesday Night Pitching
An Ace Or Two And Some More Maybe Aces

Max Scherzer at Phillies – 33.2% K, 6.9% BB, 3.11 ERA, 3.20 SIERA
Aaron Nola vs Dodgers – 30.3% K, 6.2% BB, 4.05 ERA, 3.32 SIERA
Sonny Gray at Braves – 29.7% K, 9.7% BB, 4.14 ERA, 3.67 SIERA
Sean Manaea at Indians – 24.9% K, 5% BB, 3.63 ERA, 3.69 SIERA
Logan Gilbert vs Rangers – 28.2% K, 6.4% BB, 4.14 ERA, 3.58 SIERA
Eduardo Rodriguez vs Rays – 28.9% K, 7% BB, 5.33 ERA, 3.49 SIERA
By reputation and long-term numbers, Max Scherzer is all alone at the top of the charts tonight, and Aaron Nola is next in line as the two aces squaring off tonight. However, using 2021 numbers, Eduardo Rodriguez and Logan Gilbert are very close to those aces in strikeouts, walks and SIERA. If we zone in since the beginning of June, roughly the start of the crackdown changing period, we find this:
Rodriguez – 32.2% K, 8.4% BB, 5.02 ERA, 3.33 SIERA
Scherzer – 31.8% K, 7.7% BB, 3.33 ERA, 3.37 SIERA
Gilbert – 30.4% K, 7.2% BB, 3.55 ERA, 3.40 SIERA
Gray – 29.8% K, 7% BB, 5.59 ERA, 3.23 SIERA
Manaea – 29.5% K, 5.6% BB, 2.71 ERA, 3.24 SIERA
Nola – 29.3% K, 5.8% BB, 5.31 ERA, 3.34 SIERA
