CheeseIsGood's Million Dollar Musings: Wednesday, September 29th
Happy Wednesday! For the final hump day slate of this MLB season, we’ve got an evenly balanced 13-game slate with the vast majority of the games hanging around the 8-9 projected total range. The Coors Field game is in the afternoon and off the main slate, which is always my preference. Like yesterday, we’ve got several aces to choose from as well as quite a few solid cheaper pitching options. The offensive side is sparse and leads to a wide-open field after the chalky Red Sox. Let’s dig in and see what we find!
Wednesday Night Pitching
This is a deep enough pitching slate that I can easily make a case for 20+ of these guys in MME. Plus, it’s jumbled enough in both tiers that even in cash games or single-entry tournaments, there are a plethora of viable paths to choose. I’m going to gloss over a lot of these guys, but that doesn’t mean they are completely off the board.
Aces Or Something Close To Aces
Max Scherzer vs Padres
Gerrit Cole at Blue Jays
Aaron Nola at Braves
Carlos Rodon vs Reds
Frankie Montas at Mariners
Nathan Eovaldi at Orioles
Sonny Gray at White Sox
Max Fried vs Phillies
Jose Berrios vs Yankees
Luis Garcia vs Rays
Cheaper With Decent Skills And/Or Matchups
Logan Gilbert vs A’s
Taijuan Walker vs Marlins
Elieser Hernandez at Mets
Alex Wood vs Diamondbacks
Miles Mikolas vs Brewers
Michael Pineda vs Tigers
Taylor Hearn vs Angels
WHAT TO DO WITH ALL THESE ACES?

Max Scherzer and Gerrit Cole are the big names here with the long-term consistent track record of elite upside, and both have remained outstanding down the stretch. Scherzer finally gave up some runs as a Dodger, but it was in Coors Field, where he still had a 6:1 K:BB ratio in five innings. The Dodgers are in must-win mode, so there should be no pitch count concern here, and even in a tough matchup, he is my SP1 on DK. FD is going to be a different story tonight with their bigger pricing gaps. Cole has a similarly tough matchup for strikeouts with even more power risk, leaving him behind Scherzer at the top of the charts. There’s so much good pitching at lower salaries that Cole is really just an MME pivot for me.
