College Fantasy Football Week 9
College Fantasy Football- Week 9
Well, week 8 is a wrap and just like that we are already more than half way done with college footballs regular season. I would be remiss if I didn’t note that Ryan Mallet left yet another game with an injury. It was a sad situation, for him and for my fantasy team. An early look at week 9 tells me that we are in for some great runningback performances. Most of the top runners have sweet matchups.
This week I will be previewing and analyzing a couple of contests offered at 365 Fantasy Sports. As I have stated before, there are only 2 places to play weekly college fantasy this year and 365 is the superior site over Snapdraft. The 365 site offers a variety of games that features players from all FBS schools. So you can choose players from offensive juggernauts such as Nevada, Hawaii, Houston and so forth, as opposed to your basic BCS only schools at Snapdraft. Also the way the 365 crew groups players by scoring makes for some very difficult decisions that favors the more knowledgeable players, yet still makes the game accessible to all contest entrants. So without further ado, let’s get to it the games!
All-American

Rd1 – Cam Newton vs. Colin Kaepernick
I never thought I would say that not selecting Kaepernick is a no brainer, but it is. Cam Newton is a 200 yard, 4 rushing TD’s a game freak. Oh yeah, and he passes the ball when he has to. Give me Cam Newton.
Rd2- Kendall Hunter vs. Daniel Herron
I got a good game out of Herron last week, but I am not pushing my luck in this one. Hunter is one of the nation’s best and he gets Kansas State this week. Give me Hunter.
Rd3- Darrell J-Koulianos vs. Ryan Broyles
Broyles is suffering from bum ankle and DJK has been on fire lately. Koulianos has 8 TD’s in his last 5 games and has a decent matchup this week with Michigan State. I am avoiding the injured Broyles and rolling with DJK here.
Rd4- Ricky Dobbs vs. Trent Steelman
This is the battle of the armed forces QB’s. Steelman not a bad play, but Dobbs is a monster on the ground. He has Duke in this game and the Dukies just don’t play much defense. I’ll take Dobbs.
Rd5- Jacquizz Rodgers vs. Demarco Murray
Here is one of those classic 365 tough decisions. Both these runners are among the nation’s best and both have decent matchups. I give the edge to Quizz here based on his team’s reliance on him. He gets all the touches; therefore I am going with Quizz here.
Rd6- Ed Wesley vs. Landry Jones
The TCU rb is good, but he is no Landry Jones. Although Wesley has come on strong lately, I will take Landry here.
Rd7- Matt Barkley vs. Darren Thomas
This is a barnburner here as these 2 guys square off on 365 and in real life. This should be a great game with plenty of scoring and I like Barkley’s chances of outshining Thomas. Although it is to be noted that the Oregon QB last year (Masoli) versus USC ran for 164 yards and a TD and threw for 222 yards and a TD,so USC has had problems with this offense before. However I will take my chances with Matt Barkley to light it up through the air.
Rd8- Jeff Fuller vs. Armon Binns
Oh it’s a wonderful day in the headchopper household when I can select Jeff Fuller then sit back and watch him torch the Texas Tech defense. Binns has been coming on strong lately, but I cannot pull the trigger on him and let my opponent squeeze me with Fuller. Take Fuller in a shootout.
Rd9- Daniel Thomas vs. Justin Blackmon
Not making it easy on us 365. This is a tough matchup here as you have a great rb against the nation’s top wr. Normally I would play a rb over a wr any day, but Blackmon is different. He puts up unreal stats. However Blackmon also has a cloud over his head as he was popped with a suspicion of DUI charge while coming back from the Dallas Cowboys game. So his status is up in the air this weekend, and for that reason I roll with Dan Thomas versus Oklahoma State.
Rd10
- Dayne Crist
- Taylor Potts
- Kyle Padron
- Terrelle Pryor
- Andrew Luck
- Dan Persa
This group of Qb’s is a toss up. These guys should all do well. I would avoid Crist in this group. He is playing a soft defense, but he has lost the top TE in the nation for the year and his #1 wr is hobbled with an injury and didn’t play last week. Anyone else is likely to score big. Personally I like the Dan Persa matchup against Indiana. Persa runs and throws and is a big scorer. You can’t go wrong with any of the other 4 (other than Crist), but I will select Persa here.
Now let’s take a look at another contest at 365 called “Threesome”. Now before all you Gator fans get excited and start picturing yourself in a small dark room with your girlfriend and Tim Tebow standing over you, this is actually just a non cap fantasy contest versus 2 other competitors at 365 fantasy sports. You have a list of 17 players and you choose 1. Then another list and another player. And then once again. You end up with a team of 3 players. Now my basic strategy in this game would be to avoid wr’s as they are a little more inconsistent than runners and passers. Here is my team for this contest:
Round 1:

Dan Persa vs. Indiana
I selected Persa to remain consistent with my other teams. I feel a nice shootout coming with Chappell and I want all pieces of it. I wouldn’t blame you for taking Padron of SMU or Taylor Potts from Texas Tech. But Persa has been over 23 points in every game this year, so you can’t beat his consistency.
Round 2:
Terrelle Pryor vs. Minnesota
Pryor has become a very adequate passer this year and if you defend the pass too much he can still run with the best of ‘em. I don’t see the Gophers slowing him down this week. The Buckeyes have a bye week next week so I can see a full game for Pryor to run up the stats. This round also features a couple of great runners with LaMichael James versus USC and Dan Thomas versus Oklahoma State. James scares me with his potential, as he ran for nearly 200 yards last year against USC, but I’ll stick with Pryor.
Round 3:
Ben Chappell vs. Northwestern
See Dan Persa above. Other notables in this group are Shane Vereen versus Oregon State, Brandon Weedan versus Kansas State and G.J. Kinne versus Notre Dame. Vereen is tough and has a great matchup. Difficult not to take him here. I fear Weedan will lose TD’s to Kendall Hunter in this type of game. Kinne is very solid play here and very tempting. But I will stick with my guns and keep Chappell.
If you haven’t started playing college fantasy yet, I think it’s time for you to get on that horse and give it a shot. 365 makes it real easy and I would enjoy for anyone to message me here on rotogrinders and send me a challenge. We are almost in November and trust me when I say that you are not going to want to miss out on all this good college football come Thanksgiving time and then bowl season. That’s it for me for week 9 fellas, so until next week- Good Luck
