UNLV (34) vs Eastern Washington (34)

UNLV

We start with the UNLV/Eastern Washington game because that is what DraftKings has forced us to do. This game has a minimum of 3 must-starts due to egregious pricing errors. For what it’s worth, FanDuel chose to not include the FCS/FBS matchups so if you want to avoid this game and the Arizona State versus Southern Utah mess then you may want to shift your action over there. Since I yearn to play DraftKings we’ll push our focus there. Looking over how UNLV will stack up against Eastern Washington, one item jumps right off the page. Eastern Washington allowed 196.9 YPG on the ground in their Spring matchups including a 4.5 YPC and 15 total touchdowns over those 7 contests. Charles Williams is a bellcow back for UNLV and has been for 3 years now. UNLV struggled to do anything last year during Covid-stricken 2020. That caused Williams’ numbers to plummet and the team went 0-6. However even through those struggles, Williams had at least 19 rushing attempts in every game except Wyoming and locked in 4 TDs in 6 games. Eastern Washington is going to want to spread the field, work quickly and pass the football. UNLV is going to look to slow the game down and run the football. Williams is a must play for me at a discounted $5900. UNLV has not given any indication as to who or how they will rotate quarterbacks Justin Rogers out of TCU and Doug Brumfield. Both are big quarterbacks who can run a little. But without knowing how many reps they will get playing either is just a gamble. Since Eastern Washington’s pass defense is relatively solid, I would caution against getting too crazy with the UNLV starting receivers. The only one I would give a look to would be Kyle Williams. Last year, freshman Kyle Williams had 35 catches for 426 yards which is nearly 3 times any other receiver on UNLV’s team. Interestingly the only game he worked out of the slot was in the final game of the season against Hawaii in which he was targeted a season-high 17 times. I tried to find out if that is where he’ll be lining up for this matchup and I just couldn’t confirm. To be fair, that may be a sample size thing, but it also could be an indication if UNLV and HC Marcus Arroyo discovered something. I’m not interested in the other two starting receivers Zyell Griffin or Steve Jenkins but I’m sure they have some GPP upside in a game like this.
