College Football DFS Late Slate Breakdown: Week 9
A top-ranked college football DFS player going back to the Daily Joust and DraftStreet days, Andy Smith (a25smith) is here to walk you through the late Draftkings slate with a game-by-game preview.
After taking last week off and (barely) surviving Disney World with six kids, I’m back for Week 9 of the CFB season. This week, I’m going to move away from the game-by-game breakdown and instead focus on my top options at QB, RB, and WR. As always I’ll be in discord prior to lock monitoring the news, so drop by to provide feedback on the changes and get the latest injury updates.
College Football DFS: Top DraftKings Picks for the Week 9 Late Slate
Quarterback
Core Plays
Drake Maye, ($9,300)
To be completely honest, I think QB1 on this slate is a coin flip between Drake Maye and Jaxson Dart, and either one is perfectly viable. That fact is also reflected in the projections, as they both come in with the exact same projection. I’m giving the slight edge to Maye due to the $500 discount and the fact that I think Georgia Tech can keep the game closer than Vanderbilt. I also like the fact that we should get a motivated UNC team after their dud against Virginia. UNC has a healthy team total of 38 points, and Maye is one of the best fantasy QBs in the country. The UNC passing game has taken off over the past five weeks, with Maye topping 347 passing yards three times in that span, and he’s added 5 rushing TDs on the season. The weakness of this Georgia Tech defense is their running defense, but this is not a good defense overall, so I’m not afraid of their passing defense. They’ve also coughed up some big games to QBs in the rush game, so it’s also spot where Maye could tack on another rushing TD.
Jaxson Dart, ($9,800)
I’m going to also list Dart here, as I would like to play one of Dart or Maye, but also note that with tight pricing, it will be hard to jam both in. Ole Miss checks in with the highest team total on the slate at 44 points against a Vanderbilt defense that has allowed at least 37 points in each of their past five contests. Dart is similar to Maye in that they both are dual-threat QBs that can get there via the run or the pass, as Dart already has 6 rushing TDs and 346 rushing yards on the year. I think Maye is slightly safer, as this Ole Miss offense can sometimes get very run heavy, evidenced by the past two weeks, but even in a run-heavy script, Dart should get his 12 to 14 carries. I’ll also note that teams have basically been able to do whatever they want against this Vanderbilt defense, as teams like Hawaii and Missouri have thrown all over them, while other teams have run the ball all over them. Ole Miss could easily lean on the run again like the previous few weeks, but in a similar spot last year, Lane Kiffin had a pass-heavy game plan, as Dart piled up 448 passing yards and 3 passing TDs.
