College Football News and Notes: Week 4

Quarterbacks

braxton miller cfb 550x330

Player: Braxton Miller, QB, Ohio State
News: Miller has been listed as probable for this weekends game against Florida A&M.
Impact:: Kenny Guiton was a solid play in the Buckeyes blow out win against California and because of that and the fact the Buckeyes will roll by halftime, Miller is not a recommended play.

Player: Philip Nelson, QB, Minnesota
News: Nelson is only playing at around 75% and may not even suit up this weekend against San Jose State.
Impact:: Mitch Leidner would get the snaps if Nelson couldn’t go, but is in no way a fantasy asset. Remember, San Jose State has a pretty solid defense.

Player: Ford Childress, QB, West Virginia
News: After dismantling Georgia State, it appears Childress is the Mountaineers QB moving forward.
Impact:: Childress was 25 of 41 for 359 yards and 3 touchdowns last week and if you play in a 2-QB BCS only league, he is a solid play against Oklahoma State. They should fall behind plenty and need to air it out to catch up.

Player: Baker Mayfield, QB, Texas Tech
News: After leaving the Red Raiders win over TCU with a thigh injury, he will return to the starting lineup when Texas Tech faces Texas State this weekend.
Impact:: Mayfield will light up Texas State if he is deemed 100% healthy. He is a strong QB1 in all formats.

Player: Terrel Hunt, QB, Syracuse
News: Hunt has been named the Orange’s starting quarterback moving forward.
Impact:: After Hunt came into the Orange’s last game and lit up Wagner,. He is surely a decent play as a QB2 in BCS leagues with his solid matchup against Tulane this weekend.

Player: Gary Nova, QB, Rutgers
News: Nova is going to be a game-time decision because of a concussion for the Rutgers game this weekend against Arkansas.
Impact:: Chas Dodd would replace Nova in the starting lineup, but as we have seen with concussions, you never know when one slight hit can knock the QB out. If you are in a BCS or Big East league, bench Nova this week and look at Syracuse QB Terrel Hunt who has a better matchup against Tulane anyay.

Player: Taylor Martinez, QB, Nebraska
News: Martinez is listed as doubtful to face South Dakota State this weekend as he battles a turf toe injury.
Impact:: This is big news and a big development. Because Nebraska is playing SDSU, it is more then likely they can let him heal up and save him for the Big 12 season. You better find a backup or go with a safer option as it looks less and less likely T-Magic will play this weekend. Tommy Armstrong would likely start for the Cornhuskers and be a solid sleeper play in all formats.

Running Backs

t.j.%20yeldon%20cfb%20550x330

Player: T.J. Yeldon, RB, Alabama
News: Yeldon will be suspended for the first quarter of this weekends game against Colorado State for the throart slashing gesture he made in the Crimson Tide win against Texas A&M last weekend.
Impact: Despite this news, it is hard for owners to not use Yeldon. He should still get the ball and rush for plenty of yards and a score or two. But there is risk here, so plan accordingly.

Player: Storm Woods/Terron Ward, RB, Oregon State
News: With Woods being ruled out indefinitely with a concussion, Ward will take the reigns as the lead running back for the Beavers.
Impact:: Ward has not seen much game action so far in 2013, thanks in large part to Woods’ success but also because the passing attack has been sensational. Now the job is his, so expect him to run with it, starting with a solid matchup against San Diego State. He is a RB2 in all formats.

Player: Carlos Hyde/Jordan Hall, RB, Ohio State
News: Now that he is back in the mix for carries after serving his 3 game suspension, both Hyde and Hall are expected to share the workload for the Buckeyes.
Impact:: While this is bad news in the long term, expect both to get touches and see plenty of room to run this weekend against Florida A&M. Both are solid RB3 or Flex plays, as both should find the end zone

Player: Deantre Lewis/Marion Grice, RB, Arizona State
News: After Grice rushed for four tocuhdowns and dominated snaps in the ASU win over Wisconsin last weekend, the coaching staff expects to get Lewis more involved this week.
Impact:: That is never what you want to hear if you are a Grice owner or want to use him. Regardless, this is not the week to use him as the Sun Devils take on a very tough defense in Stanford.

Wide Receivers

Player: Mike Davis, WR, Texas
News: Davis is questionable to play this week as he battles an ankle injury.
Impact:: Whether or not Davis is 100% is irrelevant as he has 2 issues against him. The first is there is no way the ankle is 100% and the second is the QB position at Texas is shaky with David Ash fighting a concussion and Case McCoy being inconsistent. Find another option at WR this week.

Player: Ricky Seals-Jones, WR, Texas A&M
News: Seals-Jones is likely to take a medical redshirt as he will likely have knee surgery soon.
Impact:: Terrible break for Seals-Jones as he was going to be a large part of the Aggies offense in his freshman season. Just expect more targets for Mike Evans now.
