College Football Weekly plays: Week 2

Hester’s Weekly Fantasy College Football Picks: Week 2

Week 2 in college football still does not have the game slate we are looking for. Continue to be careful on what teams you target players from as there are some really lopsided games and quite a few big time schools either are not playing or are not in the game slate. Week two does bring some horribly mispriced players that you should take advantage of and hopefully some of your opponents don’t scroll down far enough to do the same. You need to do your research as these smaller schools offer a lot of value and are usually underowned because most people have never heard of them.

Jake Waters (Kansas St) – Waters is my favorite QB to target this week, he is reasonably priced on all the sites and he offers as much upside as the players who are considerably higher priced. Last year he split snaps and didn’t get many of the running plays, last week he had 17 carries so it is safe to say the QB position is all his this year. He has one of the best WR’s in college to throw the ball to and the Iowa St defense is really bad. 300 total yards and 3 TD’s is probably his floor with the upside of 400 and 5.

Davis Webb (Texas Tech) – Webb is the perfect example of why playing multiple sites can be used as a research tool. He is the highest priced player on one site and a great bargain on another site. Webb will probably have a 50% chance to go for over 400 yards. If Utep keeps the game close, 50 attempts and 500 yards is a reasonable expectation. If you are playing Fanduel he is close to a must play in the late games.

CJ Brown (Maryland) – Brown is one of those players that can have a bad game like he did last week and still score over 30 fantasy points. He is an excellent runner and they like to call his number in the red zone. Along with all the running potential he brings you he also has two Big Ten all conference weapons as receivers.

Running Back

DJ Foster (Arizona St) – Foster is going to take full advantage of getting to be the starting RB at Arizona St. Foster had over 1,100 total yards and 10 TD’s last year backing up Marion Grice. Now that he gets to be the main man I see a huge week and a great year in store for us. It also helps that he had 63 receptions last year so you know he can get you points in many different ways.

Cameron Artis-Payne (Auburn) – Last week there were some questions if Artis-Payne was going to be the full time #1 RB at Auburn. I think the 26 carries for 177 yards put any questions behind us. The Auburn RB is just one of the spots where you cannot help but put up huge numbers if given the opportunity. The nice thing about the Auburn running game is you can count on 25+ carries from the RB. I expect 150 yards and 2 TD’s from CAP this week.

Marlon Mack (South Florida) – Mack is another one of those plays that could be site specific. He did run for 275 yards and 4 TD’s last week so he probably is not a bad play anywhere but on Fanduel he is minimum salary. The Maryland defense will not be as easy to run against this week but anyone that has this upside for minimum salary is hard not to consider.

Other Options: Jay Ajayi (Boise St), TJ Yeldon (Alabama), Leon Allen (Western Kentucky)

Wide Receiver

Bradley Marquez (Texas Tech) – Plain and simple Fanduel had a pricing error on this guy. He is the most expensive on some sites and minimum salary on Fanduel. There is no reason not to take full advantage of this error. Marquez is the #1 receiver on one of the most pass happy teams in CFB. Pairing him with Davis Webb is a great combo to target. I can’t even suggest to fade him in your GPP’s because he will be so highly owned, I just can’t see him not having a great week.

D’haquille Williams (Auburn) – Williams was the #1 JUCO transfer last year, and he has all the skills to turn into a great player. This will probably be one of the last weeks you can get this guy before everybody figures out he is a stud. Last week in his first game he put up a 9 for 154 with a TD and no one else had more than 2 catches on the team. He has already proven he will be the #1 receiver and will be the first guy they look to on every passing down. Play him before his salary is increases like the other studs.

Justin Hardy (East Carolina) – Hardy is one of those guys you can get and he will probably be under owned just because he plays for East Carolina, most people have not heard of him. When this year ends he might only go down as statistically the best WR ever in CFB. Hardy also has a very underrated QB throwing him the ball in Shane Carden. They will throw the ball a lot and Hardy will get most of those targets. Running out the Carden/Hardy combo is a great way to go in your GPP lineups. East Carolina will not be in the player pool some of the weeks so take advantage of these guys when you can.

Other Options: Devin Funchess (Michigan), Shane Williams-Rhodes (Boise St), Tyler Lockett (Kansas St)

Tight End

Ben Koyack (Notre Dame) – Koyack did not put up the numbers most were hoping for last week. They still were not bad numbers for a TE just nothing eye popping. The down game will help patient owners willing to stick with him this week. Most people will be off him this week after his performance last week. Notre Dame still wants to use the TE more than most teams in the country and Koyack is hands down their #1 TE. The stats will be there sooner or later and I will ride him until the salary rises.

Connor Hamlett – I personally do not like to spend on TE, but with Hamlett you will probably get WR numbers out of a TE. When building your roster you will probably leave TE as the last roster spot to fill. If you get there and you have room for Hamlett he is well worth the salary. Oregon St will usually throw the ball 40-50 times a game so Hamlett will probably get more targets than any other TE in the country.

Other Options: Evan Engram (Mississippi), Justin Sinz (Purdue)
