Saturday, September 29th
It’s a bittersweet moment today, as we bid you farewell for the season with our feature MLB articles. With just two days left in the regular season, we’re going to continue to see plenty of wild and wacky lineups from some teams, especially those that have locked up a playoff spot and seeding. As we have seen the last few Saturdays, we have a split slate with all sorts of different start times, and the sites are handling it a little differently. The good news is that FanDuel and DraftKings are in lock step with their early slates today, with both offering a four game early slate that includes the three games at 4 PM EST and the one game at 6 PM EST. FantasyDraft is starting their early slate at 1 PM EST by including the two games that start then, and FantasyDraft is excluding the 6 PM start from their early slate.
Given this setup, I’ll start with a brief overview of the two 1 PM games that are only available on FantasyDraft, and then I’ll break down the remaining four early games that make up the entire early slate on FD/DK. Let’s roll!
1 PM EST GAMES – FantasyDraft Only
Cardinals at Cubs
The Cardinals are technically still alive in the NL Wild Card race, but barely. They have gone 0-4 so far this week and frankly have crapped down their leg at every opportunity. It’s been embarrassing baseball by a team that really doesn’t deserve to make the playoffs at this point. I wouldn’t expect things to change today against a Cubs team that is still trying to fend off the Brewers for the division lead. Cole Hamels has been a different pitcher since joining the Cubs and is a fine early slate option on the mound. Miles Mikolas has been a great find for the Cardinals and hasn’t lost on the road all season, but I’m less inclined to trust him given the fact that he’s on the road and doesn’t have much of a ceiling given his lower strikeout rate. I’m not really interested in any hitters from this game, as both pitchers are solid and it’s a cold day in Chicago.
