Daily Batter Breakdown: Wednesday, May 13th
The Daily Batter Breakdown will highlight some of the best top tier hitters to target based on matchup. The biggest split taken into account will be left/right, but each player card will also show park factors, player salaries and then a description of why I’ll be targeting him.

Yasmani Grandal
A Dodgers stack paid off last night and it could pay off tonight again. Grandal’s price on FanDuel is very nice at $3,000 considering he is batting in the middle of one of the best lineups in baseball and he hits righties with a ton of power; a .181 career ISO and a .421 wOBA this year. Grandal is not a household name to those who do not play DFS, but he has major upside, even against a guy with solid peripheral numbers like Cosart.

Freddie Freeman
Freeman is one of the best cash game plays today and has quickly turned himself into the Braves’ anchor in their lineup. A .419 wOBA with a .968 OPS against righties are solid numbers and with Freeman’s ability to get on base, he is going to get you some points. Iglesias is a nice prospect from Cuba, but was not lights out in his first game and had a 5 xFIP in his starts at AAA this year. There are enough other weak spots in this lineup for Iglesias to attack rather than challenge Freeman.

Brian Dozier
Dozier is a great source of power against left handed hitters with a .219 career ISO and a .368 career wOBA. His numbers are a little down this year, but he is still a solid fantasy play against lefties, especially when hitting at the top of the lineup against a guy like Lobstein. Lobstein has lobbed the ball up for the righties this year with a 5.52 xFIP despite not allowing a homer in this short season. Lobstein does not strike out a lot of guys and relies on his fielders to do most of the damage, which could backfire against Dozier, who will hit some fly balls.

Todd Frazier
Frazier is creaming the ball right now with 11 HRs in this young season despite having a poor batting average. He has a .217 BABIP against lefties but continues to post a .395 wOBA and a .935 OPS despite him being extremely unlucky. At home in a hitter’s park today, I love him not only for his power, but because he is always an underappreciated source of steals. I do not forsee Stults lasting long in this one, as his WHIP is not good along with his HR/9.

Troy Tulowitzki
Tulo is priced lower than Andelton Simmons on DraftKings. I repeat, he has a lower price than Simmons on DK. He is still the most expensive SS on FanDuel by far, but his DraftKings price makes him extremely difficult to say no to in cash games. He has a career .411 wOBA against lefties and has absolutely mashed them lately with a .556 wOBA last year. Santiago is no righty killer either giving up a career 4.7 xFIP and a 1.38 HR/9. He may not be in Coors tonight, but it is still a solid matchup.

J.D. Martinez
Martinez is extremely cheap on FanDuel and affordable on DraftKings after hitting a HR last night. No, he has not been good this year, but Ausmus is confident that he is regaining his swing at the plate and if he is, it would be beneficial to use him before his price skyrockets. He was noted as a lefty killer last year but managed a .379 wOBA with a .208 ISO against righties as well, so he was not just a one trick pony. Nolasco is not a great pitcher although he has been solid against righties, yet Vegas still has the Tigers at 4.5 today.

Joc Pederson
Cosart has solid numbers against lefties and appears to be somewhat of a reverse splits pitcher. This concerns me a little bit, however, his BABIP against lefties has remained around .230, which will increase with time. I have never been a big fan of Cosart’s stuff, and with Pederson hitting righties at a .448 wOBA and a 1.079 OPS while also leading off and providing a little bit of speed, I am looking for him to really come out and make a difference in this game. It seems that every other day a Dodgers player is helping someone win a GPP, so you can never really ignore them.

Devon Travis
Everyone’s darling in the last month or so, Travis has really struggled in his last couple of games. He got a day off yesterday but I would expect him back in the lineup today. His $3,300 price on DK is extremely attractive and while I do not love his FD price, he is still in play there as well. Gonzalez has never been great against righties with a 4.41 career xFIP while never posting a year under 4, along with having a .244 career BABIP. While Travis’ regression may be happening right now, he has still posted a .371 wOBA and .198 ISO in his first season in the majors while hitting righties better than lefties.

Adam Jones
This game has one of the better over/unders of the day, but I am not sure there are any people I “love” in this one. I do like Jones as a GPP play, however, his failure in the last game and the righty against him may discourage a lot of people. Jones has always hit right-handers well with a .345 career wOBA and a .382 wOBA this year. Sanchez has been very good against righties in his career, but he is still green, the Orioles have a solid over/under in this one and Jones’ price is right.

Elian Herrera
He hit his third homer in three games last night against Sale and his price only went up $400. Once again, he is not one of the best plays on the board but he gets a lefty who is not as good as Sale tonight in Quintana. Herrera has hit extremely well as a right-hander against lefties in his short major league career and despite Quintana being one of the most criminally underappreciated pitchers, I still like Herrera in a hitter’s park in the middle of a righty heavy lineup.
