Daily Fantasy Golf: The McGladery Classic Picks & Projections
Recap of the WGC-HSBC Championship
I really hope that you tuned in to last week’s article and used a few of the picks. They were spot on last week and before we get into this week’s picks, let’s give a little credibility to the projections by going over last week’s picks:
- Graham Deleat – Finished strong with a -15 which was good enough for a 6th place finish.
- Bill Haas – Very respectable 21st place finish with a score of -7.
- Jordan Spieth – Another good pick, he finished in 17th place with a -10.
- Dustin Johnson – Winner winner chicken dinner, dominated the field with a -24.
- Bubba Watson – My favorite sleeper finished in 8th with a -14.
So we had all of the picks finish in the top 21 including 3 top 10’s as well as picking the winner. If you needed proof that the projections work, there you go.
The McGladrey Classic Preview
I’m excited for this week’s tournament. The PGA Tour is back in the U.S. and this week’s tournament will be held at the Sea Island Course in Georgia. We have a full field this week that features a few big names and this event does have a cut. I think the projections really shine in events like this because they highlight players that are underpriced that should make the cut.
On Draftstreet this week, there are 3 main studs in the field but you are going to have to pay for them if you want to take them. Webb Simpson, Zach Johnson, and Matt Kuchar are all at least 9k more expensive than the next priced golfer. For me, they are priced too high to consider taking. As you can see from the projections, their $ / Fantasy Point is very high.

The McGladrey Classic Picks
- Charley Hoffman: $17,969 – Hoffman enters this event as a top 10 favorite to win, but he has a very affordable price tag of less than 18k. Hoffman has two top-10 finishes in his last 9 events and has only missed the cut once in his last 14 events. He’s a lock to make the cut this week and should be in the mix on Sunday.
- Chris Kirk: $17,236 – Kirk ended up being a little higher in the projections than I originally thought that he would. This makes me like him even more this week. He currently makes 83% of the cuts and has a pretty decent top-10 finish rate. Kirk has 6 top-25 finishes in his last 10 events. If he can do that again this week, he will easily make value.
- Harris English: $20,661 – English is the one golfer that I am paying up for this week. He is a top-5 favorite to win this week and has really been playing some good golf lately. He is coming off of a 7th place finish at the CIMB Classic and think he has a good chance of a top 5 finish this week.
- Greg Chalmers: $8,547 – Super sleeper time! Chalmers is the only golfer in the top 50 player projections that is under 10k. Projections have him listed as the 10th best value this week. He’s made 5 of his last 6 cuts and would be a great play if he can stay around for the weekend.
- Kevin Chappell: $13,917 – Chappell is my dark horse this week. He has good odds to win for his price and is playing some of his best golf right now. He played well in this event last season and could push for a top-10 finish if everything lines up right.
