Daily NBA Plays: Feb 10, 2012
Full load of games in the NBA tonight, but beware of the likely blowouts in the Miami v. Washington & Chicago v. Charlotte games. Good chance LeBron, Wade, Rose & Deng might only go three quarters tonight. Lots of eyes are going to be on the Knicks to see if “Linsanity” continues tonight, and the return of Kevin Love may mean a few less minutes for good value plays the last couple days (Derrick Williams & Michael Beasley). Here is the run down of Friday nights NBA plays.

Point Guards

Jeremy Lin – This guy has become a star overnight and everybody is watching to see if it continues tonight vs. the Lakers. If you play on FSL or FanDuel, he is an absolute must play and I’m guessing 95% of the lineups will have him, so expect overlap. Even the 11.7K on Draftstreet looks pretty enticing if he can continue his trend of huge fantasy numbers. I’ve had my doubts after the first game, but I’m not doubting anymore especially with Amare and Carmelo still out.
Ramon Sessions – It is not a lock that Kyrie Irving will be out tonight, but if he is you better put Sessions in your lineup. He is coming off a 24 point 13 assist game, and Cleveland lacks playmakers without the #1 pick in the lineup. Not sure he is a smart play for the recent bump in price if Irving decides to give it a go, but be sure to follow us on Twitter @Rotogrinders to get all the up to the minute injury news.
Shooting Guards
Iman Shumpert – With Amare and Carmelo out, he has definitely been more aggressively offensively and I expect that again tonight. He is coming off 27 & 26 fantasy point games and may be able to thrive against a Lakers team that might have heavy legs after a tough game the night before against Boston.
Kobe Bryant- There are not a ton of great options at SG today, so take the safe bet in Kobe. I don’t like the fact he’ll be playing on the back end of a back to back (44 minutes yesterday too), but that hasn’t stopped him or Mike Brown in the past to have him log heavy minutes the next night. Kobe loves the spotlight and with all the attention going to Lin in this game, I could see him stepping out and doing something special in MSG.
Small Forwards
Andre Igoudala – I absolutely love the consistency of Igoudala. If you look at his game log, he hardly ever has a bad fantasy day and occasionally goes crazy with a triple double. The Clippers don’t have one of the better defenses and I don’t think they have a good defensive matchup on Iggy, so he is a safe bet for 30 tonight, but you might get lucky and see him finish with 40-45 fantasy points.
Quincy Pondexter – This is clearly only a play if you want to go stars and scrubs, because he is coming off a nice 23 fantasy point game and is dirt cheap from a salary perspective. Important thing to keep your eye on is the status of Tony Allen. If he is back tonight, I might avoid Pondexter, but if he gets the start I think he can pay his cheap salary off.
Power Forwards
LaMarcus Aldridge – He is coming off a horrendous game, but I fully expect a huge bounce back game from the All Star tonight. Normally I avoid teams that play the Hornets because they are awful and many times the game is over by the 3rd quarter. Fortunately for Aldridge, Portland is a terrible road team, so I think they are going to need everything they can get from the big man tonight.
Amir Johnson, James Johnson, Linas Kleiza – Maybe I am wimping out putting all three in here, but one of them is going to have a nice game tonight. Boston is horrendous on the boards and I fully expect a let down from them on the back end of the back to back. If I had to pick one, I think Amir is the safest bet of the three, but I’m confident one of them will have a great stat line tonight against the Celtics.
Center
Pau Gasol – After a slow start to the season, Gasol has really picked it up as of late. He has been averaging 35 fantasy points over his last 7 games and has a good history in Madison Square Garden (27 points 7 rebounds in last 4 @ MSG). The injuries to the New York front court should help him put up a good line as I expect him to abuse Jared Jeffries tonight.
Greg Monroe – Got to love the 35 fantasy ppg average over the last 7 games including 39 & 41 in the last two. He should have no problem putting up nice numbers against the soft interior of the Nets.
