DB's Daily Fantasy College Football Picks: Week 2
Our picks got off to a fabulous start last week and your fearless leader may have had his most profitable weekend ever playing daily fantasy football. A big reason things worked out so well was because I never put too many eggs in one basket. On a few sites I may have only rolled out one lineup, but in the large GPP’s on Draftstreet & DraftKings playing a handful of lineups paid big dividends. Unlike NFL where there is a more limited number of players and games, college has gigantic player pool and sometimes there are just too many guys you feel are must plays and building that 2nd or 3rd lineup is a way to ensure you get who you want. Week 2 is tricky because there are a ton of games that are likely to be over by halftime, but don’t let that scare you off too many players. More times than not if a stud players is sitting in the third quarter they have already reached their value. Let’s get to the picks.

Quarterbacks

Bryce Petty (Baylor) – Art Briles has developed one of the most prolific offenses over the past couple years and now it’s Bryce Petty’s turn to reap the rewards. He is not as much of a runner as the two previous QB’s in the system, but this offense is built on speed and timing so he should have a big year. He finshed with 312 yards passing and 2 TD’s last week and I think will be able to roll up something similar this week against Buffalo.
JW Walsh (Oklahoma State) – It wasn’t the efficient offensive display we have been used to seeing by the Cowboys, but OSU managed the win last week vs a decent SEC school. They get the luxury of facing UTSA this week & now that Gundy has decided Walsh is his guy under center, I am ready to ride him hard. He didn’t do much with his arm last week, but did muster over 100 yards rushing with a score. I love the dual threat QB’s for DFS and he did have some big games throwing last year before he got hurt, so I figure he will light up the scoreboard this weekend.
Logan Thomas (Virginia Tech) – I can’t believe I am recommending a guy who went 5-26 for 59 yards last week, but competition is everything and Virginia Tech goes from one of the nations best in Alabama to one of the worst in Western Carolina. He is a true dual threat QB who rushed for TD’s in 8 of his last 9 games a year ago and he almost always abuses weak competition. Thomas should account for at least 3 TD’s this week, and would shock me if that number is higher to make up for his stink bomb a week ago.
Other Options: Braxton Miller (OSU), Jared Goff (Cal), Taylor Martinez (Nebraska), Bryn Renner (UNC)
Running Backs
Ka’Deem Carey (Arizona)
Carey frustrated a lot of DFS players on Friday when he didn’t find the field against Northern Arizona. There was talk he may be suspended for a quarter or half, but when it came out he was going to miss the entire game I felt like Seinfeld just gave me one of his “Ohhhhs!”. I have seen no reports that he is going to missing any time this weekend, so my guess is he makes up for last weeks game in a big way. He is an absolute beast on team that has very few playmakers, so I feel like he is a lock for 150 yards and 2-3 TD“s this week. He won’t come cheap anywhere, but he is my #1 play on Saturday.
LaDarius Perkins (Mississippi State) – Perkins didn’t get off to a great start for the Bulldogs in the opener against Oklahoma State, but they have an extremely one sided matchup this week against Alcorn State. They are close to 40 point favorites and its impossible for me not seeing Perkins having a huge game. The price is more than fair on the sites he’s available and looks like a good bet to hit paydirt a couple times.
Zach Zwinak (Penn State) – I don’t usually advocate loading up on Penn State players, but they face the abomination known as the Eastern Michigan defense this week. They were one of the worst a year ago and by the looks of things they didn’t get much better in the offseason. They allowed 5.8 yards per carry to lowly Howard last week, so you have to think Zwinak will compile some big time numbers in this one
Other Options: DeAnthony Thomas (Oregon), Damien Williams (Oklahoma), James Sims (Kansas)
Wide Receiver

Marqise Lee (USC) – He is the most dynamic wide receiver in college football but terrible quarterback play is likely going to be an issue for him most of the year. Washington State though is one of the games on the schedule where I think he can overcome that problem and put up a monster performance. From a pricing perspective he is expensive, but probably still in play everywhere but StarStreet.
Jamison Crowder (Duke) – He is coming off a boring 6 reception 63 yard performance last week, but he definitely was the biggest weapon Duke brings to the table. The Blue Devils have to travel to Memphis for a game that I think will be a lot closer than people think and Crowder should be relied upon to put up much bigger numbers this week.
Keyarris Garrett (Tulsa) – Garrett is not a household name, but might have the best matchup of any WR this week. Colorado State gave up an embarrassing 400 yards passing last week to bad Colorado team and the Buffs top wideout torched the Rams for 10 receptions over 200 yards and 2 TD’s. I doubt Garrett will replicate those numbers, but even half that production would pay off his salary.
Other Options: Daniel Spencer/Deontay Greenberry (Houston), Dorial Green-Beckham (Missouri), Allen Robinson (Penn St)
Tight End
Eric Ebron (UNC) – North Carolina had a very tough matchup against South Carolina in the opener, but to Ebron’s credit he was still somewhat productive. He could be a monster in this one sided matchup against MTSU where I fully expect to see the Tar Heels offense put up some big numbers
Jace Amarao (Texas Tech) – He is arguably the top tight end in college football this year and despite being suspended for the first half of the opener, he still out produced most other at the position with just one half of production. Texas Tech has a cupcake on the schedule this week so where Amaro is available be sure to plug him in your lineup.
Other Options: David Funchess, Coly Lylera*
