DB's Daily Fantasy College Football Picks: Week 3

I could not quite repeat my success from Week 1 again in Week 2, but overall the picks finished with solid results. I fell prey to an in game injury to Braxton Miller on the majority of my teams and it is pretty much impossible to win when your most expensive player bagels. Hopefully we can avoid the injuries in Week 3 and start adding to our bankroll.

Quarterbacks

brett hundley cfb 300x200

Brett Hundley (UCLA) – This should be a highly competitive game between two solid teams so I would expect nothing but a whole lot of points put on the board. Hundley has proven himself to be an elite player and I love taking those kind of players in this spot. Outside of his games last year against Stanford Hundley was almost automatic for 3 TD’s or more. In this matchup last year he threw for over 300 yards and had 4 TD passes along with 53 yards rushing. Considering how poor the Nebraska defense has looked in 2013 he should put up big numbers again this year.

Connor Wood (Colorado) – If you read this column weekly you know how I really love dual threat quarterbacks in DFS. Wood does not fall into that category, but the situation is perfect for him to have a monster day throwing the ball. In two games this year he has completed 68% of his passes for over 700 yards. The Buffs defense is so bad that Wood has no choice but to throw the ball around and the same will happen Saturday vs. Fresno. This game has a total of 67.5 points and even though Colorado is projected for about 30 of those, Fresno has given up a ton of yards through the air to Rutgers and Cal Poly.

EDITORS NOTE: This game has been POSTPONED because of flooding in Boulder

AJ McCarron (Alabama) – For whatever reason a couple of sites have Alabama priced WAY down this week and McCarron looks to be a tremendous value considering the situation. All eyes will be on Manziel in this game, but McCarron is still as good as they come. He looked terrible in the opener, but that is not surprising considering he was dealing with a gnarly in grown toe nail. This is a huge game and with Bama projected to score 34, he seems a lock for 250 & 2-3 touchdowns.

Other Options: Taylor Martinez (Nebraska), Taylor Kelly (Arizona State), Marcus Mariota (Oregon), Jameis Winston (FSU)

Running Backs

marion%20grice%20cfb%20300x200

Marion Grice (Arizona State) – Arizona State and Wisconsin should play a tight four quarter game and Grice is an all around stud who should finish with solid numbers both rushing and receiving. He is a beast coming out of the backfield and in full point PPR formats he should be a huge contributor.

Jordan James (UCLA) – With an extremely solid showing in the opener, James appears to have locked down the running back spot for the Bruins. This matchup with Nebraska was filled with huge fantasy numbers a year ago and we see saw UCLA running back Jonathan Franklin total 217 yards on the ground that day. With Franklin off the to NFL it’s James’ time to shine.

Bishop Sankey (Washington) – There are not a whole lot of workhorse running backs in the college game, but Sankey is one of the few that definitely deserve that title. He is a lock for 25-30 carries a game and has reached over 100 yards rushing in 5 of his last 6 games. Illinois looks much improved offensively this season so this game could be a bit of a shoot out which shouldn’t hurt Sankey one bit.

Other Options: Ka’Deem Carey (Arizona), Paul James (Rutgers), Tyler Gaffney (Stanford), TJ Yeldon (Alabama)

Wide Receivers

Amari Cooper (Alabama) – Cooper didn’t make a huge impact Week 1 against Virginia Tech, but I believe it was no fault of his own. QB AJ McCarron had an in grown nail which clearly set him back. He should be fully recovered by now and this is a game Bama has been looking forward since their stunning loss to the Aggies in Tuscaloosa last year. Cooper is a stud and should make enough plays to pay off his paltry salary on most sites.

Marqise Lee (USC) – I still cannot figure out how Lee caught 7 passes for just 27 yards against the pitiful Cougars of Washington State. Kiffin should have been fired immediately after that game. This week the Trojans are at home against Boston College and this might the last stand for Kiffin & USC. The Eagles are making an incredibly long road trip and I just can’t see them hanging in this one after the debacle we saw a week ago. Sure, the QB spot is a mess, but Lee is still ultra talented and Kiffin has to take some shots downfield with one of the nations best playmakers.

Donte Moncrief (Ole Miss) – This is one of my favorite value plays of the week at wideout as the Rebels face Texas in what should be a game with some offensive fireworks. The total is 65 and the Longhorns got rolled up by BYU last week. Even though I expect a better effort from them this weekend, I think Ole Miss is going to need to throw a ton to keep pace. Even though the freshman Treadwell is the real deal, I think it’s about time Bo Wallace starts to Feed Moncrief (Click the Link…you will thank me later)

Other Options: Shaq Evans (UCLA), TJ Jones/DaVaris Daniels (Notre Dame), Josh Stewart (OSU)

Tight Ends

Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Washington) – He was suspended for the opener and did have a wrist injury not long ago, but all indications are that “ASF” is going to be in the lineup for Washington on Saturday. He is arguably the best tight end in the nation and is clearly one of the top fantasy options at a tough position to fill. His salary is probably as low as you will see it all season, so jump on at a discount now, because he is a TD machine with scores in 6 of his last 8 games.

Chris Coyle (Arizona State) – Here is another guy who is a defacto WR in this ASU offense and should be an integral part of the offense against a tough opponent in Wisconsin. Price is not too outrageous for a guy who you know will give you a some solid production. If you are rolling with Kelly at QB, he is the perfect compliment to that play.

Other Options: Jacob Pedersen (Wisconsin), Colt Lylerla (Oregon)
