DB's Daily Fantasy College Football Picks: Week 6

Unfortunately I woke up this morning with something that appears to be food poisoning, so this column is going to be a little shorter than normally this week. I got hit by the injury/rain bug last week with a couple of my selections, but hopefully we can avoid those land mines in this edition of the college picks.

Remember, watch the playback of CollegeFootball After Dark w/ STLCards & Chop for more picks and analysis. Also catch STLCards & EMac on GrindersLive Saturday morning at 10:30 for more College Football Talk.

Quarterbacks

Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville) – Not only could he be the #1 pick in this years NFL draft, but he is about as sure of a thing as you will find in DFS on Saturdays. This week he faces a Temple defense that is 2nd to last in passing yards allowed, so he should have a big day. Teddy is not a dual threat QB, but on sites like DraftDay & DraftStreet that don’t award extras points for rushing TD’s, he is as good as any QB on the board.

Gary Nova (Rutgers) – If you are looking for value, Gary Nova might just be your guy. In the two competitive games on Rutgers schedule he has gone off 348 & 5 TD’s and 346 & 3 TD’s. This game against SMU should be tight and with Nova cheaply priced across the industry, he shouldn’t have too big a problem reaching value.

Bo Wallace (Mississippi) – One of my favorite plays last year was playing big named players AFTER a date with Alabama. More times than not they struggle vs. the Tide and their salary is depressed the next week. That applies to Wallace this weekend and he should have no problem getting going against and average Auburn defense.

Other Options: AJ McCarron (Alabama), Braxton Miller (Ohio State)

Running Backs

Duke Johnson (Miami) – Duke has been a bit of a disappointment this year, but he is still the most talented player on the Canes and will surely continue to get his touches. He was on his way to a big game last week, but a couple of fumbles on the goal line prevented that from happening. His price is at an all time low and he is more than due for a multi touchdown Saturday.

Byron Marshall/Thomas Tyner (Oregon) – With DeAnthony Thomas sidelined this week, both of these running backs are going to get a ton of work vs. a really bad Colorado team. Marshall should get the most looks (and will likely be heavily owned), but don’t sleep on Tyner as he was a very highly touted prospect and has the same number touchdowns as Marshall in far fewer carries.

Savon Huggins (Rutgers) – I don’t usually list QB’s & RB’s from the same team in this column but Huggins is going to be highly underpriced on some sites with stud RB Paul James on the shelf for the Scarlet Knights. He should get a steady dose of carries against this subpar SMU defense and if he reaches paydirt once he will likely pay off his salary on a couple of sites.

Other Options: Jeremy Hill (LSU), Mike Davis (South Carolina), Shadrach Thornton (NC State)

Wide Receiver

DeVante Parker (Louisville) – If you are looking to pair a wide out with Bridgewater it might as well be Parker. He has caught a TD pass in 10 straight games and gets a ton of looks from the future NFL QB. He is not a high reception guy, but multiple touchdown catches seems very possible vs. this terrible Temple pass defense.

Jarvis Landry (LSU) – This guys has morphed into a fantasy stud this year for the Tigers. Zach Mettenberger has improved a ton and Landry might be the biggest beneficiary. He has touchdowns in all 5 games this year and has gone over a 100 yards receiving in three of his five games. LSU should come into this game vs. Mississippi State with a chip on their shoulder and I expect Landry to continue to put up big numbers.

Bruce Ellington (South Carolina) – The Gamecocks top receiver Shaq Roland is going to miss this week and that automatically gives Ellington a tremendous bump in value. Last week with Roland on the shelf, Ellington caught 4 passes for 88 yards and he should definitely pay off his number again this week.

Other Options: Jordan Matthews (Vanderbilt), Eric Ward (Texas Tech), Jeremy Johnson (SMU)

Tight End

Tyler Kroft (Rutgers) – If I’m going to recommend the QB & RB of Rutgers, why not the Tight End. Kroft is coming off a huge game against Arkansas where he recorded 6 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown. He is not likely to repeat that stat line, but should pay off the smallest tight end salary on the board on Draftstreet.

Dan Vitale (Northwestern) – Vitale got off to a tremendous start this season, but against inferior competition the past two weeks he has not been a big part of the game plan. That should change this week against Ohio State and with the recent drop in salary, now might be the time to pounce.

Other Options: Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Washington), Chris Coyle (Arizona State)
