Which useful trend or statistic stuck out most during your research?
Notorious: Each week, DataGolf has a chart that shows the importance of basic stats on each course. I’ve never seen driving distance get a bigger piece of the pie in that chart as it shows for the Country Club of Jackson this week. We’ve seen bombers play well here in the past and it makes sense. There are four par fives on the course, most of the holes are straight, the rough isn’t very penal, and the trees are quite sparse. I generally don’t put much of an emphasis on distance, but I will this week.
STLCardinals84: This is your typical birdie fest venue. This used to be contested as a secondary event but has seen its status get elevated over the past couple of years. Still, the fields tend to be weaker in the fall, and that will especially be true the week after the Ryder Cup. This course is one where bombers do have an advantage, and we have seen them play well at Country Club of Jackson in the past. This is a par 72 with four par fives and little trouble lurking, so it’s bombs away this week.
hondizzle: Weaker fields with pricing bumped up for players who are strong players in the field, but not necessarily proven winners, always makes for a fun process in terms of roster building. Win equity is thinner than normal on a week like this, so I would not put too much stock in having to spend on the top range of players. Very few players in this week’s field have a PGA Tour win under their belt and only a handful have multiple wins on their resume.
