DFS Tournament Report: Monday, May 4th
Qualifying season is in full swing! Who booked their seats to the Playboy final last night?
We picked up the action at approximately 9:50 PM Eastern time, and in the $200 qualifier it was “professional” taking the early lead with 40 points with 26 innings remaining with a lineup of Keuchel-Gattis-Reynolds-Altuve-Rodriguez-Peralta-Pederson-Springer-Kiermaier.
$750K FanDuel PB Mansion Qualifier #35 ($200) Recap
Early homers from Reynolds and Pederson coupled with a great outing from Keuchel were enough to give professional the early lead. There was one particular user sitting three spots back in fourth place that looked to be dangerous as he had 36.08 points with 44 innings remaining. That user was poppaspicks, who goes by teeski33 on RotoGrinders and is ranked #15 in the TPOY rankings – his lineup consisted of Kershaw-Vogt-Ortiz-Dozier-Seager-Peralta-Reddick-Smith-Ethier. Kershaw didn’t have his best game but it wasn’t one to laugh at either and Vogt continued his crushing ways to give poppaspicks lineup some early momentum. Would he have enough to move to the top though?
Thirty minutes passed by and professional was still in the lead with 40.25 points with 17 innings remaining while poppaspicks had dropped to ninth with 33.33 points and 34 innings left. Moving into second place was beez1973, who is currently ranked #231 in the TPOY race. He had 37.5 points with 20 innings remaining and additionally had another lineup tied with poppaspicks for ninth place.
10:50 PM rolled around and professional was still in the lead with 41.5 points with 10 innings remaining. beez1973 had dropped to fourth and was not looking good with only 6 innings remaining and a score of 37.5. poppaspicks held steady in ninth place with 33.33 points and 23 innings left. Moving into the top three was brewers828 (Jonede on RG), who sat in second with 38.58 points and 12 innings left, and aldo44 (WhiskeyTavon4 on RotoGrinders) was in third with a score of 38.33 but only 5 innings of play remaining.
professional would maintain the lead half an hour later with a score of 44.5 and 6 innings remaining. Klink (#121 on the current MLB leaderboard) moved into second with 44.33 points and 5 innings remaining. brewers828 rounded out the top three with 42.58 points and 6 innings left. poppaspicks started to make a move and was in fifth with 39.83 points and 15 innings left.
The lead would finally change hands and it was brewers828 and klink sharing the top spot shortly before midnight with both having 44.33 points. Professional wasn’t too far behind with 44.25 points. All of that would change, however, about 15 minutes later when Seth Smith of the Mariners hit a home run. That would move poppaspicks into the lead, and with the games coming to a close the only player within striking distance that could catch him was larimer_st_luck, who was 2.25 points behind with Logan Morrison and Robinson Cano remaining, while poppaspicks had Kyle Seager and Seth Smith still in play. None of those four would do anything that would cause a change and poppaspicks squeaked out the win with a score of 44.83, just .5 points ahead of brewers828 and klink, who both ended with 44.33. Here’s a look at the winning lineup and ownership percentages:

$750K MLB PB Mansion Qualifier #34 ($25) Recap
The early leader at 9:50 PM EST was kushheadshot, who had a score of 43.75. One problem for him, however, was he only had 11 innings remaining and a large group of players on his tail with significantly more innings left in their lineups. ssbledsoe (#217 in the TPOY race) was in second with 40.08 points and 33 innings remaining and psimkins rounded out the top three with 40 points and 31 innings remaining. Lurking nearby in fifth place as naapstermaan, whose DFS resume is as impressive as they come, with 39.25 points and 34 innings remaining.
kushheadshot was able to maintain his lead for the next half hour but it was inevitable that he would lose that lead, and when Torii Hunter hit a three-run homer at approximately 10:30 PM EST, naapstermaan would move into the lead. That lead would be short-lived, however, as versuhtyle (#104 in the TPOY race and #98 in MLB) would take the top spot at 10:50 PM EST with a score of 45.25 points and 12 innings remaining. naapstermaan was not far behind with 45 points and 8 innings remaining but it was two players a little bit further down that looked to be the ones that would likely take it down. juniors_finest was in fourth with 42.75 points and 17 innings left while sitting in seventh was calvinandlobbs, who had 40.25 points and 24 innings remaining.
versuhtyle would keep the lead for another half hour with a score of 49 points and 9 innings remaining but calvinandlobbs would gain traction moving up to second with 48.25 points and 17 innings left. naapstermaan rounded out the top three with 46.75 points, but with only 4 innings left he had little hope of pulling out the win.
calvinandlobbs would move into the lead as the tournament approached midnight with 48.75 points and 10 innings left, with versuhtyle right behind him in second with 48.5 points and 6 innings left. Coming out of nowhere on the basis of the strong arm of Felix Hernandez was topthegreenmonster, who moved into a tie for second with 48.5 points and 6 innings left.
topthegreenmonster, after a two-strikeout inning from Hernandez, would move into the lead about 15 minutes later and would hold that lead by the narrowest of margins as the tournament started to come to a close with 50.5 points and 1 inning left. naapstermaan had 48.5 points and Logan Morrison and 1 inning left. versuhtyle had 48.25 points and Angel Pagan with 2 innings remaining. calvinandlobbs was also sitting with 48.25 points and he had David Freese, Buster Crawford and 3 innings left.
It would be the unlikely David Freese, he of the .1% owned variety, that would move calvinandlobbs into the lead at the very last minute. However, topthegreenmonster had 4 points waiting for him if the Mariners could hold on for the win. Freese had made it interesting, narrowing the gap to 3-2, but Collin Cowgill would get caught stealing to end the game and give topthegreenmonster the 4 bonus points for the Felix Hernandez win and the tournament win by just .25 points. Here’s a look at topthegreenmonster’s lineup and ownership percentages:
P: Felix Hernandez – $11,000, 10.9% owned, 18 fpts
C: Josh Thole – $2,200, 2.4% owned, .5 fpts
1B: Adrian Gonzalez – $4,300, 19.8% owned, 5 fpts
2B: Brian Dozier – $3,100, 4.7% owned, 5.25 fpts
3B: Brock Holt – $2,200 – 1.6% owned, 5.5 fpts
SS: Jhonny Peralta – $2,500 – 35.6% owned, 3.25 fpts
OF: Matt Holliday – $3,500 – 16.4% owned, 5.5 fpts
OF: Joc Pederson – $3,900 – 14.5% owned, 6.25 fpts
OF: Chris Coghlan – $2,300 – 2.2% owned, 5.25 fpts
Final Results
1. topthegreenmonster – 54.5 – Trip to the Playboy Mansion, along with entry into the $750K Playboy Baseball Championship ($13,914 value)
2. calvinandlobbs – 54.25 – $400
3. yellow_male – 51.0 – $200
4. suhweetness – 50.25 – $150
5. jl003 – 49.83 – $100

7. naapstermaan – 48.25 – $70
DraftCheat’s Massive Night
Outside of the Playboy Mansion qualifiers, chripe01, better known as DraftCheat on RG, had a huge night on FanDuel. Ranked #37 in the TPOY race and #8 overall in MLB, DC had four finishes in the top 8 of the $150K MLB Monster, including the top two spots. Those four cashes alone were worth a staggering $45,000. His winning lineup there was as follows:
P: Felix Hernandez $11,000, 11.4% owned – 18 fpts
C: Yasmani Grandal $2,400, 10.9% owned – 4.75 fpts
1B: Mark Reynolds $2,200, 7.4% owned – 11.75 fpts
2B: Jose Altuve $4,900, 23.6% owned – 5.5 fpts
3B: Brock Holt $2,200, 2.9% owned – 5.5 fpts
SS: Jhonny Peralta $2,500, 40.6% owned – 3.25 fpts
OF: Matt Holliday $3,500, 17.1% owned – 5.5 fpts
OF: George Springer $3,900, 37.5% owned – 2.25 fpts
OF: Billy Burns $2,300, 12.2% owned – 2.25 fpts
That same lineup would be good enough for second place in the $175K MLB Grand Slam and another $10,000. For those counting at home, that’s $55,000 in winnings without even counting other lineups that he might have had cash. Quite the night for one of the best in the biz!
Editor’s Note: We will be covering the DraftKings qualifiers in future versions of this article. Congrats to Grinder KaiBang on taking down the DK Q last night!
