Weather Forecast
Brisbane and Gold Coast have a 80% chance of showers and thus reducing scoring totals. Carlton and Melbourne will be played in an enclosed stadium. Adelaide is experiencing heavy rainfall (95% chance) along with strong winds and possible storms. This weather apart from Carlton v Melbourne will have implications for fantasy (forwards ceilings are reduced to low goal scoring potential) as the ball will become slippery in the wet.
Quirky Fact – Both Fremantle and West Coast are in isolation “Hubs” on the Gold Coast for the next 4 weeks due to the pandemic. Therefore avoiding the 2200 mile journey back to Western Australia every week.
Fantasy Contests Available
DraftKings have posted their main GPP contest with a $50,000 USD pool for a $10 USD entry. The contest is a 150 max contest. However, once contests are filled that is it! They do not continue to grow, so ensure you have your entry in your chosen contest reserved!
Also available to play:
$8,000 Showdown Rivalry Special (Adelaide v Port Adelaide)
$5,000 Late 2-game Slate
$2,500 Mini-Max for $0.50 Entry
DraftKings AFL DFS Picks and Projections
Ned McHenry – M – DK $2,500
This young player will be a very popular play on this slate. After a season in the South Australian league (SANFL) last year without making his AFL debut he is finally due. He should see some exposure through the middle and has already shown he can score at a senior level averaging 81 fantasy points in the SANFL in 2019. At the bare minimum in short games he won’t need much more than 40 fantasy points to return value.
Hugh Greenwood – M – DK $5,900
A lot of Australian fantasy players back in round 1 piled into Hugh Greenwood without much success. However, we shouldn’t let that result deter us, rather I will back the truck up over it and pick up the advantage of lower ownership. Hugh was recruited to play in the midfield for the Suns and in round 1 he saw the third most center bounce attendances with 11. Will Brodie has been dropped this week, which should also bump up the midfield time for Hugh. He also notched up 79% game time on the ground, which is higher than his average in the past three seasons.
Sam Powell-Pepper – M – $5,400
In a game that is likely to be very wet in Adelaide, then you must look for the best tacklers on each team. Powell-Pepper in his young career holds the club record for 17 tackles in one game back in 2018. He is just a bull and will relish the forecast conditions. Also helps that Powell-Pepper is starting to find the ball more often.
Max Gawn – R – $8,700
Max Gawn in the ruck looks to be the ideal setup on this slate as he faces the Blues who gave up the second most points to opposition number 1 rucks last year. Having cheap options such as McHenry make Gawn a reliable choice in the ruck. Although don’t sleep on Reilly O’Brien and Scott Lycett who will go at it hard in the wet.
West Coast Forwards
The Eagles are the biggest favorites on the slate and take on the lowly Suns on Saturday Night. A great target on the 2-game slate but look to have exposure to Key Forwards in Jack Darling and Josh Kennedy along with crumbing forwards in Liam Ryan and Jamie Cripps.
