DraftKings Lineup Recap: Week 3

Overall it was a very low scoring Week 3 in the NFL. We saw dud performances from quite a few players in very favorable matchups. Most notably, the Eagles scored 37 points while getting little to nothing from both of their running backs. LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles combined for a measly 9.2 fantasy points. Before we get into the recap of my team, let’s quickly take a look at the team that took down the $100 King of the Beach qualifier.

DraftKings King of the Beach Winner: Kobe4MVP ($100 Q)

Week 3 was another interesting week of football and we saw some interesting results in the King of the Beach qualifier. Kobe4MVP, a high-stakes daily fantasy Grinder, took down the $100 qualifier with a very contrarian lineup. Only three players were more than 10% owned (Rashad Jennings, Pierre Garcon, and DeMarco Murray). The rest of the players in this lineup were all less than 5% owned. This goes to show that sometimes it pays off to take the contrarian route in large tournaments. When players that have a low percentage of ownership hit, you can separate yourself from the competition because no one else took those contrarian plays.

What may be the most interesting thing about this lineup is that he took down the qualifier without a QB/WR handcuff. Many of the large GPPs were dominated with Kirk Cousins, DeSean Jackson, and Pierre Garcon parings, but this lineup got the job done with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB and Antonio Brown, Pierre Garcon, and Allen Robinson at WR. It was also interesting to see the DeMarco Murray and Jason Witten pairing as RB’s and TE’s typically compete for production as they do not play complementary positions. Big congrats to Kobe4MVP as he booked his seat for the Atlantis trip!

Notorious’ Week 4 DK Lineup

lesean-mccoy-550x330

QB – Russell Wilson ($6,800) – 24.0 FP’s
RB1 – LeSean McCoy ($7,800) – 2.2 FP’s
RB2 – Eddie Lacy ($5,900) – 4.5 FP’s
WR1 – Demaryius Thomas ($6,600) – 9.1 FP’s
WR2 – Mike Wallace ($5,800) – 13.6 FP’s
WR3 – Percy Harvin ($5,400) – 11.2 FP’s
TE – Jared Cook ($3,400) – 14.5 FP’s
FLEX – Larry Fitzgerald ($4,800) – 5.4 FP’s
D/ST – Patriots ($3,500) – 6 FP’s

Total Score = 90.5 FP’s

Obviously, with a score of 90.5 fantasy points, it was a disappointing week. My goal in cash games was to create a team with the highest floor possible. I projected LeSean McCoy and Eddie Lacy with a much higher floor as both were playing in games with two of the highest totals of the week. A combined 6.7 fantasy points from your two starting tailbacks just isn’t going to get the job done.

Russell Wilson was my top target in cash games at QB. He was severely under-priced on DraftKings and had a favorable matchup against the Broncos. Wilson and Jared Cook were really the only two players that lived up to my expectations. My biggest regret was not having any exposure to the Redskins passing attack. Pierre Garcon was high on my list of targets, but I eventually went another route at WR.

From a lineup standpoint, Larry Fitzgerald was really my only contrarian play. Everyone else in the lineup had an ownership percentage well over 10%. In fact, six of my players had an ownership over 20%. It was just one of those weeks where the obvious picks didn’t pan out. The best part about daily fantasy sports is that you can get back up on the horse and get right back at it. On to Week 4!
