DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Player Salary Analysis: RBC Heritage
If you are a fan of the Millionaire Maker (who doesn’t love a chance at winning a million dollars?), then you’ll be happy to find out that DraftKings is running a PGA Millionaire Maker again this week. You’ll also find a massive $555 tournament, a massive $2,120 tournament, and my personal favorite — a massive $200 single-entry tournament in the DraftKings DFS lobby. FanDuel is offering big contests as well with $100,000 to first in their $9 and $555 tournaments.

DraftKings and FanDuel RBC Heritage Salary Analysis Table
In this article last week, I gave out a few picks. This week, I’m actually going to dive into the salary differences between DraftKings and FanDuel. In the table below, you will find Vegas odds, salaries, two percentage of salary cap columns, and two odds for columns. The “DK & FD Cap %” columns show how much of the respective salary on each site each golfer costs. If you are playing on both sites, these columns will help you decide which site each golfer is the better value on. The “DK & FD Odds” columns take each golfer’s salary rank and compare it to their odds rank. The higher the percentage, the more value they provide on that specific site (relative to their outright odds).

DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Salary Analysis for the RBC Heritage
We often get too focused on plays when it comes to DFS and forget about the real difference makers. In tournaments, the goal is to create leverage on the field and give yourself an opportunity to capitalize on that leverage. In large-field tournaments, I generally recommend to leave money on the table (even if it’s only a little) and to max out your lineup’s aggregate ownership. I try to stay around 75% on DraftKings and around 85% on FanDuel. You can certainly up these total ownerships if you leave money on the table, as you are reducing your chance of having a duplicated lineup. All of these are options in LineupHQ, which is easily my favorite optimizer in the industry (“available to Premium subscribers”/premium).
Webb Simpson
DraftKings: $9,000 / FanDuel: $11,400
It’s always easy to look back on a week and feel smart or bad about your decisions. When Webb Simpson missed the cut, many were taking victory laps on Twitter. Honestly, the only negative I could find in the play last week was that he was expected to be popular. He was a great fit for the course, he had great history, he was in great form before the break, and he said he was grinding hard on his game. I’m going right back to the well this week, as Harbour Town has many of the same qualities as Colonial Country Club. It has historically favored accuracy over distance and you have to have an elite short game to win. Simpson has all of that going for him and has top 16 finishes here in each of the last three years. He’s a strong option on both FanDuel and DraftKings.
Dustin Johnson
DraftKings: $8,500 / FanDuel: $10,700
I really don’t want to play DJ on a narrow course that forces you to club down on a number of holes, but his price is too good to pass up on both DraftKings and FanDuel. He missed the cut last week at the Charles Schwab Challenge, but it was the first week back from the break and he hadn’t played that event since 2014. He actually gained strokes with his ball striking, but lost three strokes to the field on and around the greens. He should bounce back nicely at a course where he’s posted finishes of T28 and T16 the last two years. He likes to be aggressive here, as he’s averaged over 300 yards off the tee in those two outings. The fact that they’ve widened the fairways a bit this year certainly doesn’t hurt the outlook of DJ this week.
Ian Poulter
DraftKings: $7,600 / FanDuel: $9,400
Poulter did exactly what we expected him to do last week at Colonial Country Club. He made the cut and grinded his way to a T29 finish. At his price point, he was a strong value play, especially given the fact that so many of the popular names around him ended up missing the cut. I don’t expect Poulter to fly under the radar as much as last week given the fact that he has four top 18 finishes at this event in the last five years. He grades out as the 14th best statistical fit for the course in my PGA DFS model (available to premium members) and he’s cheap across the industry. Safety with upside is always a good combination.
Patrick Reed
DraftKings: $8,800
Using the table above, we can see that Reed stands out as a really strong option on DraftKings and a mediocre option on FanDuel. Comparing salaries between the sites allows you to pick and choose for spots for each golfer if you are playing on both. Reed got off to a hot start last week and then fell apart early Friday morning. He ultimately recovered and made the cut. He then went on to have one of the best scores of the weekend to finish in a tie for seventh. He was in great form before the break and to my surprise, he has the highest birdie or better percentage in this field (using a combination of the last 36 and 75 rounds).
Tyrrell Hatton
FanDuel: $9,800
Hatton was one of the few golfers in this week’s field that didn’t tee it up at Colonial Country Club. He was firing on all cylinders before the break, picking up two wins in his previous four starts (one on the Euro Tour). He’s very good with his irons and tends to play well on courses that demand accuracy. Harbour Town is certainly one of those courses, as the likes of Matt Kuchar, Kevin Na, Russell Knox, and Luke Donald have some of the best course history here. Hatton is a tremendous value option on FanDuel at a price of only $9,800.
