DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Player Salary Analysis: Travelers Championship
DraftKings is running back the Millionaire Maker for the third event in a row. It’s a $20 buy-in with 40% of the prize pool going to first. If competing against 150,000 lineups isn’t your cup of tea, they have some amazing single entry and three-max tournaments. They are also offering an $888 tournament with a $200,000 first prize. FanDuel has great offerings of their own, including a $9 buy-in with $100,000 to first and a $555 buy-in with $100,000 to first.

This article provides DraftKings and FanDuel salary analysis for this week’s Travelers Championship. The goal of this article is to help spot golfers that are underpriced on each site and potentially golfers that are site-specific targets. TPC River Highlands is a Par 70 that measures just over 6,800 yards. There are two reachable par fives and a drive-able par four. The fairways are wider than we’ve seen the last two weeks, but this is still far from a bomber’s track. I expect golfers to be more aggressive off the tee this week, but the shorter hitters can still compete here. I will be looking for strong ball strikers can rack up birdies. With recent rain in the area and potentially more on the way Wednesday, this could turn into a birdie-fest.

DraftKings and FanDuel Travelers Championship Salary Analysis Table
In the table below, you will find Vegas odds, salaries, two percentage of salary cap columns, and two odds columns. The “DK & FD Cap %” columns show how much of the respective salary on each site each golfer costs. If you are playing on both sites, these columns will help you decide which site the golfer is technically a better value play on. The “DK & FD Odds” columns take each golfer’s salary rank and compare it to their odds rank. The higher the percentage, the more value they provide on that specific site (relative to their outright odds).

DraftKings + FanDuel DFS Salary Analysis for the Travelers Championship
As I mentioned last week, my goal in tournaments is to create leverage on the field and give myself an opportunity to have that top 0.01% lineup. In large-field tournaments, I generally recommend to leave money on the table, generally between $100-$900. I also set my max aggregate ownership at around 75% on DraftKings and around 85% on FanDuel. The ultimate goal is to avoid building duplicated lineups. All of these are options in LineupHQ, which is easily my favorite optimizer in the industry (available to Premium subscribers).
Patrick Reed
DraftKings: $8,700 / FanDuel: $10,300
Reed burned many last week after failing to make the cut at the RBC Heritage. There are certain golfers that can get away with missed cuts when it comes to the hearts of DFS players, but Reed isn’t one of them. He’s an easy golfer to dislike, which should keep ownership at a reasonable level this week. He was in elite form before last week and can get red hot with both his irons and his putter. His worst putting surface is bermuda, so he should feel right at home on these poa/bent mixed greens. He clearly likes the course, as he’s posted finishes of T30, T5, and T11 here in the last four years.
Tony Finau
DraftKings: $8,200 / FanDuel: $9,900
Do you ever feel super confident about a golfer only to end up feeling dumb about the play when they miss the cut? I really hope that’s not the case with Finau this week. He seems to check every box that I’m looking for. Similar to Reed, Finau is much better on bent and poa greens than he is on bermuda. He tends to play his best in strong fields and for the third straight week, this feels like the field of a major. He’s posted finishes of T33 and T23 since coming back from the break and has three top 25 finishes at this event in four appearances.
Brian Harman
DraftKings: $7,600 / FanDuel: $9,200
Harman seems to pop in my model every single week and looking at the percentage columns in the table above, he appears to be a little underpriced on both FanDuel and DraftKings compared to his outright odds. He’s gained 5.5 strokes on approach in the first two events back from the break, finishing in the top 30 both weeks. He’s clearly a fan of this golf course, as he owns three top eight finishes here in the last five years. If his irons and putter stay hot, he could easily find himself in contention on Sunday.
Paul Casey
DraftKings: $8,900
While I don’t think Casey is a bad play on FanDuel, I like his price a little more on DraftKings. It will be interesting to see how highly owned he is given the fact that this is his first competitive golf in over three months. He was in great form before the break and has the best course history of anyone in the field — T5, T2, T5, T17, and T2 the last five years. With Hideki Matsuyama being a popular play that missed the cut last week in his first event back, this could help lower the ownership for both Casey and Patrick Cantlay.
Lucas Glover
DraftKings: $9,600
Glover has quietly racked up top 25 finishes in each of the first two events back from the break. He didn’t have the best course history at either track, which makes me feel a lot better about rostering him this week. You’ll understand when you see his course history at TPC River Highlands — MC, MC, MC, MC, and T47. If you can look past those results, he appears to offer great value on DraftKings. He’s gained over 12 strokes ball striking in his last two events and has plenty of room for improvement on and around the greens.
